What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activities Assistant position at Birchwood Cottages?
Primary Job Purpose:
The Engagement Aide assists with the planning and implementation of activities for the residents of Birchwood Cottages which enhance the mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and social needs.
Job Duties:
· Assist in the planning, developing, organizing, and implementation of all resident’s activities
· Develop suggestions and ideas for improving and expanding the Activities Program
· Maintains a professional, warm and caring relationship with residents and families
· Establish and maintains good community relations and contacts with the community
· Assist Residents to and from activities
· Escorts for residents to and from community activities
· Attend required on-going in-service training sessions and orientation
· Responds to resident’s needs. Initiates, conducts and facilitates programming, including therapeutic groups and individual interactions, that offer cognitive stimulation, socialization, physical activity and spiritual connection
· Demonstrates therapeutic conversation and redirection conversation with residents, offering appropriate cues
· Ability to manage difficult resident behaviors
Responsibilities of all Birchwood Cottages Staff
· Provide residents and families, with individualized attention and the highest level of customer service.
· Maintain proper phone and customer services etiquette.
· Be creative with resident care and services to make individual allowances for disease progression.
· Understand that all actions and comments are a direct reflection of Birchwood Cottages.
· Understand and have working knowledge of caring for those with memory loss including proper and dignified communication.
· Accept, understand, and treat all residents with dignity regardless of disease diagnosis, progression, and manifestation.
