Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional chairside assistance, support orthodontic procedures, and ensure a smooth patient experience. This role requires a strong understanding of dental terminology, infection control protocols, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced clinical environment. Experience with pediatric dentistry and general dentistry procedures is highly valued. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining high standards of patient care and clinic efficiency while adhering to HIPAA regulations and utilizing electronic medical records systems.
Duties
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, adjustments, and appliance fittings using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and equipment, ensuring aseptic technique and infection control standards are maintained.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Record vital signs and medical history information accurately in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic.
- Manage patient flow by scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and verifying insurance information.
- Provide patient education on orthodontic care, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric patients when applicable.
- Maintain clinical supplies inventory and sterilize instruments according to infection control protocols.
- Support administrative duties such as greeting patients as a dental receptionist when needed and assisting with medical documentation and coding.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is required; experience in orthodontics or pediatric dentistry is preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical imaging techniques, and infection control procedures is essential.
- Familiarity with X-ray procedures, 3D scanners, dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting and vital signs monitoring is necessary.
- Certification in dental assisting or relevant coursework in dental healthcare is preferred.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and medical documentation practices is required to ensure compliance with privacy standards.
