Position Details
- Role: Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Setting: School-based / In-person
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
- Interpret ophthalmological and medical eye reports as they relate to educational access
- Contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs
- Recommend and coordinate specialized evaluations, including low vision, orientation and mobility, adaptive physical education, and psychosocial assessments
- Consult with classroom teachers, diagnosticians, families, and related service providers regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, and testing modifications
- Provide direct instruction in Braille and other specialized skills as appropriate
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation in compliance with state and school requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution (preferred)
- Active North Carolina Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification or licensure (required)
- Experience working with children and adolescents in a school-based setting, particularly students with special needs
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Medical, vision, and dental insurance
