About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer to support the continued evolution of enterprise electronic trading and pricing platforms within a global capital markets environment.

The role combines hands-on Core Java development with architecture, performance engineering, and platform modernization. You will work on real-time applications that process market events, pricing inputs, analytics, and trading workflows at scale, while helping transition established components toward a more strategic and maintainable architecture.

This is an opportunity to work closely with software engineers, quantitative developers, and front-office stakeholders on business-critical systems where reliability, latency, and accuracy are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and enhance high-performance Core Java applications supporting electronic trading, pricing, analytics, and market-data workflows.
  • Modernize mature enterprise applications through incremental refactoring, component decomposition, and integration with newer services and strategic platforms.
  • Build and improve event-driven, concurrent, and multithreaded solutions with a strong focus on throughput, latency, resiliency, and thread safety.
  • Work with architects and quantitative teams to implement pricing and analytical capabilities, including complex calculation flows and dependent processing.
  • Analyze application behavior, production logs, and performance metrics to diagnose scalability issues, defects, and operational bottlenecks.
  • Design reusable services, interfaces, and frameworks that improve consistency, maintainability, and extensibility across the technology estate.
  • Partner with traders, quantitative developers, product owners, and technology stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into pragmatic engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to code reviews, automated unit and integration testing, continuous delivery, technical documentation, and engineering standards.
  • Support release readiness and third-line production investigation, helping maintain stability across business-critical trading environments.
  • Promote modern development practices, including Agile delivery, DevOps automation, observability, and the responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 7 years of professional software engineering experience, with strong hands-on expertise in Core Java 8 or later.
  • Experience developing enterprise-scale, real-time, distributed, multithreaded, or message-driven applications.
  • Background working with capital markets technology, such as electronic trading, pricing, risk, market data, or analytics platforms.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, software architecture, enterprise design patterns, and maintainable code practices.
  • Experience improving performance and scalability in complex applications, including tracing execution paths and identifying bottlenecks.
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems and safely integrating new capabilities without disrupting existing users or production processes.
  • Familiarity with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, source control, build tooling, and modern DevOps delivery practices.
  • Comfort working in Linux-based environments and supporting production applications through structured troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical designs, alternatives, and trade-offs to varied stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related analytical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Fixed Income, Rates, or other front-office electronic trading platforms.
  • Exposure to real-time pricing engines, quantitative analytics libraries, risk calculations, or calculation-orchestration frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Spring, SQL databases, messaging technologies, service-oriented architecture, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Familiarity with common engineering tools such as Jenkins, Git/Bitbucket, Artifactory, Ansible, Unix scripting, and application monitoring platforms.
  • Experience working directly with traders, quantitative analysts, or front-office technology teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of fixed-income products and pricing concepts, such as bonds, swaps, futures, yields, sensitivities, or related analytics.
  • Experience using AI-assisted software development tools to support debugging, code analysis, documentation, and engineering productivity.
  • Advanced degree in Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field is a plus.

The base salary range for this role is $140,000 - $180,000, with flexibility for exceptional candidates.
