Position Summary
The Staff Ultrasound Technologist performs portable diagnostic ultrasound and vascular imaging services in accordance with physician orders, company protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements. This position is responsible for providing high-quality patient care while traveling to various healthcare facilities and patient residences throughout the assigned territory. The Staff Ultrasound Technologist is expected to work independently while maintaining effective communication with dispatch, supervisors, clients, and fellow team members. This role requires professionalism, adaptability, safe vehicle operation, and a commitment to BioTech X-ray's "Patient-First People" philosophy.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform portable diagnostic ultrasound and Doppler examinations as assigned in accordance with physician orders and company protocols.
- Perform examinations in accordance with BioTech X-ray's established technical standards, including the 11 Best Practices.
- Position patients appropriately to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
- Travel safely and efficiently to multiple healthcare facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and patient residences throughout the workday.
- Upload ultrasound images into the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) promptly following exam completion.
- Communicate with interpreting physicians as needed to facilitate timely interpretation and reporting.
- When dispatch is unavailable, communicate summary report information to client facilities and fax hard-copy reports as required.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation and records of services performed.
- Complete assigned exams efficiently while providing exceptional customer service.
- Utilize downtime productively and remain available for additional assignments.
- Maintain company property, including vehicles, communication devices, ultrasound equipment, and supplies.
- Perform routine inspections of vehicles and equipment and promptly report maintenance or repair needs.
- Ensure company vehicles remain clean, organized, and all equipment is properly secured for safe transport.
- Promote BioTech X-ray's services through professional interactions and identify opportunities to support business growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Verify patient identity and explain procedures in a professional, compassionate, and reassuring manner.
- Provide exceptional service to patients, facility staff, physicians, and clients.

- Represent BioTech X-ray professionally during all client interactions.
Quality and Compliance
- Follow all applicable federal, state, and company regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Follow infection prevention and safety standards at all times.
- Participate in competency reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education activities.
- Assist with mentoring and training new sonographers when requested.
- Ensure accuracy, quality, and attention to detail in all examinations and documentation.
- Exercise sound clinical judgment when adapting to varying patient conditions while maintaining examination quality.

Qualifications
Education and Certifications
Required
- Current ARDMS certification or equivalent.
- Current Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and Abdominal certification.
- Current state licensure where required.
Preferred
- Additional specialty ultrasound certifications.
Experience
Required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a team.

- Experience performing vascular ultrasound examinations.
Preferred
- Experience in portable ultrasound.
- Experience providing services in long-term care or mobile imaging environments.

Travel Requirements
- Travel is an essential function of this position.
- Frequent travel to healthcare facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and patient residences is required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be physically and medically capable of safely operating a company vehicle throughout the workday.
- Must safely operate company vehicles and transport portable diagnostic equipment.
