Job Description

AbbVie Product Development Science & Technology is seeking a Senior Scientist (Process Chemist) to conduct late-stage chemical process development, supporting projects from late clinical development through commercialization and throughout the product lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated scientist, with a proven track record of accomplishment in the field of organic synthesis, to work in a multi-functional team environment.

  • The candidate will be responsible for developing organic chemistry processes and executing on scale to provide practical access to potential therapies, which may include small molecules, peptides and/or antibody drug conjugates (ADCs).
  • The position involves multi-disciplinary interactions with organic chemists, analytical chemists, engineers, and solid-state scientists.


Responsibilities

  • Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in development and commercialization activities.
  • Maintain autonomous and productive performance in laboratory experimentation, requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.
  • Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data.
  • Pursue areas of investigation that are scientifically impactful to pipeline programs.
  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional team members to drive pipeline and commercial programs.
  • Author publications, presentations, regulatory documents, and/or patents.
  • Demonstrate high proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab, pilot plant, and/or manufacturing support space.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, and GxP compliance.
  • Be a subject matter expert to other functions within the project team.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, Masters Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no experience necessary.
  • A broad range of functional expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry, compound purification, and spectral analysis/interpretation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
