As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly motivated Scientist / Research Associate to join our In Vitro Pharmacology group. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, optimization, and execution of in vitro assays to support drug discovery and screening programs for internal and client-sponsored projects. This role requires strong scientific and technical expertise, experimental rigor, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced CRO environment.

This position is ideal for a hands-on scientist who enjoys experimental work, assay development, scientific problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design, optimize, and execute cell-based and biochemical assays to support drug discovery and SAR screening programs.
  • Prepare reagents, cell cultures, compounds, and assay materials with high reproducibility and accuracy.
  • Independently plan and perform experiments while following established procedures and identifying deviations from accepted practices when necessary.
  • Analyze, interpret, document, and present experimental data to project teams and management using appropriate software and data analysis tools.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and improve assay workflows for screening and mechanistic studies.
  • Support assay transfer, validation, and implementation for client-sponsored programs.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, including plate readers, liquid handling systems, and imaging platforms.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant laboratory documentation using ELN/LIMS systems.
  • Contribute to study planning, scientific discussions, and multidisciplinary project execution.
  • Prepare technical summaries, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support general laboratory operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure work is conducted in compliance with SOPs, safety policies, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and assist with training or mentoring junior staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related field; OR Master’s degree with relevant industry experience; OR Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of relevant industry experience in biotech, pharma, or CRO environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with cell-based and biochemical assays, including assays performed in 96- and 384-well formats for screening and SAR studies.
  • Solid understanding of molecular and cell biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture and compound handling. Experience analyzing and interpreting biological data using appropriate software tools (e.g., GraphPad Prism).
  • Familiarity with assay detection platforms including luminescence, fluorescence, absorbance, radiometric, imaging-based, and/or high-content assays is preferred.
  • Experience with automated liquid handling systems, assay automation, and high-throughput screening workflows is highly desirable.
  • Experience with ELN/LIMS platforms and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience working in CRO or client-facing project environments is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, written, verbal, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

Physical Requirements

  • This role involves working in laboratory and office environments. Candidates must be able to:
  • Work with biohazardous materials and chemicals in compliance with applicable safety standards.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures involving biological samples and research materials.
  • Wear required PPE including gloves, lab coat, respirator, and eye/face protection.
  • Stand, sit, and walk for extended periods; crouch, bend, twist, and reach as needed; perform tasks involving repetitive motions.
  • Routinely lift, push, or pull up to 10 lbs. Work under standard laboratory environmental conditions.
  • Possess visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed laboratory work and data review.
