Role Summary Can be Remote or Local hybrid The Associate Director, Learning & Development – Commercial Skeletal Conditions (US) is a critical commercial capability leader responsible for building and delivering high-impact, compliant learning solutions that drive field performance and patient impact. This role is not a traditional training role. It is a hands-on, business-embedded leader who translates brand strategy into capability, elevates field effectiveness, and ensures audit-ready execution at all times. The individual will play a foundational role in new hire onboarding, launch readiness, and continuous upskilling, while helping shape the future of learning through innovative, scalable approaches. Above all, your leadership will ensure BioMarin’s commercial teams are capability-ready to compete and win and that every learning initiative translates into better outcomes for patients with rare skeletal conditions. What You’ll Own 1. Business-Aligned Capability Strategy
- Act as the primary learning partner to the US Skeletal Conditions business
- Translate brand strategy, POA priorities, and field needs into targeted learning plans
- Build role-based capability journeys across:
- Scientific fluency & objection handling
- Competitive readiness
- HCP engagement & selling excellence
- Digital enablement
- Own new hire onboarding for Skeletal Conditions
- Design structured, compliant onboarding journeys that accelerate time-to-productivity and early retention
- Integrate disease, product, and skills into a cohesive learning experience
- Continuously evolve onboarding based on field performance and feedback
- Design and deliver high-quality learning across modalities:
- Live (in-person & virtual)
- Workshops and simulations
- Digital and on-demand experiences
- Lead execution of:
- Product & disease training
- Launch readiness
- POA and ongoing field upskilling
- Step in immediately to fill critical gaps and facilitate training when needed
- Ensure all training is fully compliant and inspection-ready
- Partner with MLR/PRB to review and approve content
- Maintain training material, records, and documentation within compliant systems
- Ensure required training is delivered, tracked, and defensible
- Bring a growth mindset to continuously evolve the learning experience
- Leverage modern approaches to improve learner engagement and retention, including:
- AI-powered coaching and simulations
- Microlearning and in-the-flow-of-work enablement
- Identify opportunities to modernize how learning is designed, delivered, and reinforced
- Champion experimentation with emerging technologies while maintaining validation and compliance standards
- Define and track metrics tied to performance:
- Time-to-proficiency (20% reduction in first 12 months)
- Training compliance (100% audit-ready training records and required training completion)
- Learner engagement and retention
- Field confidence and effectiveness
- Use insights to continuously optimize programs
- Communicate impact to senior stakeholders
- Partner closely with Global Commercial Learning & Development peers supporting Skeletal Conditions
- Share US best practices, insights, and assets to drive global consistency
- Identify and eliminate redundant training efforts across regions
- Partner closely with Marketing, Medical, Market Access, Compliance, and Field Leadership
- Ensure alignment between learning, strategy, and execution
- Act as a trusted advisor on capability development
- 8–10 years in Commercial Learning & Development, Sales Training, or Commercial Enablement
- Rare disease biopharma experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to design, deliver, and scale learning programs
- Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory environments
- Demonstrated growth mindset and passion for innovation, including use of AI tools
- Exceptional facilitation and stakeholder management skills
- New hires ramp faster and perform with confidence
- Field teams demonstrate stronger, more consistent execution
