Role Description The Mill Set Up Machinist is a full-time, on-site role based in Hernando, MS. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting milling machines to manufacture medical components according to engineering drawings and specifications. Daily tasks include selecting appropriate tools and fixtures, performing machine set-ups, monitoring machining operations, inspecting parts for quality and accuracy, and making necessary adjustments to maintain tight tolerances. The machinist will interpret blueprints and work instructions, perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment, and document production and inspection results. This role collaborates closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to support prototype builds, validation runs, and ongoing production while maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Strong experience setting up and operating CNC and/or manual milling machines in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions, including understanding of tolerances and GD&T.
- Proficiency using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools to verify part quality.
- Solid understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, and material properties (metals and plastics, preferably for medical applications).
- Capability to troubleshoot machining issues, make accurate offsets and adjustments, and optimize set-ups for efficiency and repeatability.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and cleanliness, including adherence to standard operating procedures and quality system requirements.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineers, quality personnel, and other machinists.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing technology is preferred.
- Prior experience in medical device or regulated manufacturing environments is a plus.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and work in a fast-paced production setting.
