The Production Planner is responsible for coordinating and maintaining manufacturing schedules to support on-time delivery of customer orders. Final decisions on important matters, such as scheduling priorities and resource allocation, are typically made by management. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in communication and planning systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, update, and monitor production schedules to meet customer demand and align with master production and inventory strategies.
- Review open sales orders, release work orders, and coordinate material and tooling availability to support scheduled production.
- Analyze capacity constraints, material arrivals, and quality issues; adjust schedules and communicate changes as needed.
- Collaborate with production, materials, purchasing, and customer service teams to ensure alignment on priorities and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Track work orders, update ERP/MRP systems, and maintain accurate planning data.
- Coordinate material flow and kitting activities to ensure timely delivery to production lines.
- Participate in daily tier and cross-functional meetings to communicate schedule status and address production challenges.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as schedule adherence, inventory levels, and on-time delivery; recommend actions for improvement.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, scheduling, and ERP data integrity.
- Assist with inventory tracking and cycle count activities as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education / Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in one of the following fields: Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, Logistics and Transportation; OR equivalent experience.
- 0–2 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or supply chain support within a manufacturing environment (medical device experience preferred).
- Basic understanding of ERP/MRP systems (NetSuite ERP experience preferred).
- Foundational knowledge of planning and scheduling concepts such as demand, capacity, and lead time.
- Familiarity with Lean or continuous improvement principles preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
