This is an entry-level position as a Biomedical Technician. The Biomedical Apprentice gains on-the-job training by shadowing experienced Biomedical technicians and under the close supervision of management. Duties include being trained to perform PM's (planned maintenance), understanding the typical day of a technician and how to work in clinical environments, how to respond to service calls, balancing workload, proper documentation of repairs and equipment files, customer/vendor management, learning how to calibrate equipment, troubleshooting techniques for various types of equipment, planned maintenance procedures, electrical safety testing, and how to repair equipment. This will include working alongside experienced technicians in real-time service environments. The goal, with the successful progression of this position - the Biomedical Apprentice over time will transition to a full-service Biomedical Technician.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs timely routine or planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities on medical equipment as required and recommended by the manufacturer, accreditation agencies, company policies, and procedures, including maintaining aesthetics of the equipment.

  • Maintains an inventory of service or PM parts.
  • Documents all daily, weekly, monthly repair and maintenance activity/repairs per applicable policies and/or procedures.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:

  • Maintains compliance with all manufacturer, industry standards, local, state, and federal regulatory requirements such as CMMS, JCAHO, DNV, State Board of Health, and LA State Device Distributor agencies.
  • Collaborates with facility staff members to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.

MISCELLANEOUS, OPERATIONAL, and EDUCATIONAL:

  • Must comply with company policy and procedures.
  • Attend and successfully complete a basic electronics course along with our own technical training program.
  • Must learn and demonstrate abilities to operate sophisticated test equipment such as electrical safety analyzer, infusion, defibrillator, and electrosurgical analyzers, pressure meters, DVM, and other test equipment used in the Biomedical field.
  • Must comprehend technical manuals.
  • Transports equipment as needed and with supervisor consent.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Position involves active work including lifting, bending, walking, standing, and driving for considerable lengths of time.
  • The use of dollies or other equipment is mandatory when moving heavy-weight items. May be required to frequently lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. as high as 5 feet or 95 lbs as high as a countertop.
  • There is potential exposure to chemicals and infectious materials. The scope of work includes low and high-voltage equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided by the company.
  • Work environment is typically in hospitals and clinical environments, air temperature controlled with moderate noise levels. May be required to work in various outdoor elements at times.
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required. Overnight travel is required but will typically not exceed 2 nights in a row.

SUPERVISION:

  • Employee will be closely supervised and trained during the first of (4), 3-month evaluation period(s) while transitioning to work independently with moderate supervision.

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Associate Degree in electronics / biomedical technology, or equivalent recommended.
  • Valid Driver's License issued in the employee’s state of residence and a clean driving record required.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 0 – 2 years of related experience.
  • Prior experience working in an industrial/dialysis/medical technical setting is recommended.
  • Manual dexterity and analytical thinking skills are required - The ability to use common hand tools, small power equipment, and analyze data comparing measurements to manufacturer specifications is critical.
  • Must be teachable and have high analytical skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend and communicate in the English language.
  • Computer literacy with the ability to navigate through common operating systems, such as Microsoft Office suite, computerized management databases, working with PDFs, online equipment manuals, and menu-related systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays, including overnight travel.
  • Must successfully complete a basic electronics course and all required training. The expected completion goal of the training segments is within the first 12 months of service from the date of hire/job start date.

Pay: $12.00 - $20.00 per hour
