About The Department

The Chicago Center for HIV Elimination (CCHE) is situated within the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago Medicine. CCHE aims to eliminate all new HIV transmission events by 2041. The University of Chicago's position on the South Side makes it uniquely situated to test, treat, and prevent new HIV infections in a highly affected population. The South Side communities and majority Black suburbs connected to them to the South represents the largest contiguous Black population in the United States. By using our integrated HIV transmission elimination approaches, we are beginning to make new infections in these communities less frequent.

Job Summary

The Supportive Services Implementation Research Coordinator will assist with day-to-day operations of funded projects that involve working with LGBTQ and individuals living with or at increased risk of HIV. They will oversee several implementation research projects with some oversight from the Research Manager and the Director of Research. The incumbent will be expected to actively pursue required knowledge and skills for professional development; and stay informed about the NIH and CDC regulations and requirements. This role will report to the Director of PCHH Funded projects include, HIV care, PrEP care, network science, and case management.

This position is grant funded.

Responsibilities

  • Supports recruitment, screening for eligibility and consenting community members.
  • Delivers assessments, interventions, and controls, supporting data entry and analysis.
  • Offers referrals to service programming when appropriate.
  • Conducts literature reviews, and supports manuscript, and grant-writing.
  • Depending on skill set, may engage in data management and analysis.
  • Oversees day-to-day research project operations.
  • Assists with day-to-day operations of CDC and NIH funded projects that involve working with LGBTQ and criminal justice- involved (CJI) populations vulnerable to COVID and HIV.
  • Coordinates multiple related projects to ensure optimal recruitment, enrollment and fidelity to the complex requirements of study participation and follow-up counseling.
  • Assists with the development of study protocols, survey instruments, and maintenance of databases.
  • Provides HIV/STI treatment, education, and prevention in non-traditional settings, such as community venues.
  • Performs phlebotomy or willing to be trained in phlebotomy.
  • Supports evening and weekend events for when research is requested on site.
  • Performs various administrative and operational tasks under moderate supervision. Acts as a resource on the basics of clinical research and related aspects of clinical study for other clinical research staff.
  • Uses knowledge of clinical studies to coordinate the collection of analyzable clinical research data and/or samples.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • Background working with individuals who identify as gender or sexual minorities.

Technical Skills Or Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, and Word.
