Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Automation and Controls Engineer who will play a key role in scaling and optimizing manufacturing operations, supporting commercialization efforts, and driving continuous improvement across pilot and production environments. This role is ideal for a Process, Controls or Automation Engineer who thrives in fast-paced industrial settings and enjoys solving complex process challenges.
The person hired will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and implementing manufacturing and process improvements that support product development, operational excellence, and scale-up initiatives. This role will focus on testing, implementing, maintaining, optimizing, and improving automation and control systems onsite at the pilot plant in Golden, CO.
The person hired for this role will be instrumental in the successful commissioning of the first production plant in Texas, breaking ground in 2026. This is an opportunity to be at ground zero of building a state- of- the -art production plant for a company that’s paving the way to transform the industry of cement & concrete.
*This will involve extensive travel between the Texas and Colorado site.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, optimize, and maintain automation and control systems at the Golden plant
- Program and support Allen-Bradley PLCs, FactoryTalk View SE, PlantPAx, and Studio 5000
- Build and validate HMI/SCADA systems; review integrator deliverables and support commissioning
- Develop and maintain technical documentation: electrical drawings, control narratives, loop diagrams, P&IDs, SOPs
- Support capital projects including equipment upgrades, plant expansion, and process improvements
- Partner with Operations and third-party contractors to establish process control strategies and operating standards
- Train and support plant operators on automation systems
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical, Automation, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field)
- 5 years in automation/controls engineering in heavy industrial settings or high temperature process environments.
- Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation: Allen-Bradley PLCs, FactoryTalk, Studio 5000/RSLogix, HMI/SCADA
- Experience with combustion systems, thermal processing, or kiln operations
- Background in cement, mining, or other high-temperature process industries preferred
- Solid understanding of PLC architecture, PLC-to-PLC communication, and electrical troubleshooting
- Familiarity with Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC, and DCS systems
Salary : $120,000 - $190,000
