We are hiring a Safety Training and Promotion Liaison - Hybrid for one of our clients in Newark, NJ.

Job Description

The Safety Training and Promotion Liaison supports the development, coordination, promotion, and administration of comprehensive safety training programs for Rail and Surface Transit employees. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements while aligning with NJ Transit's operational goals, schedules, and budget. The position also oversees training records, vendor coordination, and targeted safety training initiatives, including those for the Agency Safety Management (ASM) department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive safety training programs for Rail and Surface Transit employees to meet regulatory, scheduling, and NJ Transit budget requirements. Programs include, but are not limited to:
    • Asbestos Awareness
    • Hazard Assessment
    • Hazard Communication / Right-To-Know (RTK)
    • Electrical Safety (Lock-out/Tag-out)
    • Bloodborne Pathogens
    • Fatigue Management
    • Confined Space Awareness
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Respiratory Protection
    • Fire Safety
    • Walking Working Surfaces and Fall Protection
  • Develop and maintain digital training materials in support of Agency Safety Management (ASM) Safety Programs.
  • Coordinate and liaise with external training vendors and agencies, including the NJ State Safety Council, Transportation Safety Institute (TSI), OSHA, and Fra.
  • Manage and track safety training activities for Agency Safety Management (ASM)employees, including scheduling, attendance, certification compliance, and associated vendor coordination.
  • Process invoice payments and manage financial transactions related to external training vendors, ensuring accuracy and compliance with NJ Transit procedures.
  • Maintain and update the safety training curriculum database and ensure accurate recordkeeping of employee training and certifications in the NJ transit Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Research, evaluate, and implement innovative presentation and instructional techniques to enhance safety messaging and engagement.
  • Lead administrative, logistical, and technical coordination for agency-wide safety training initiatives.
  • Develop and manage annual safety training plans in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Promote and market available training programs to employees, ensuring clear communication of schedules, requirements, and enrollment processes.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from trainers and participants following training sessions to assess effectiveness, improve delivery, and measure impact on employee performance and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and collaborate on instructional design to ensure training content is relevant, effective, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Support special projects and perform additional duties as assigned by the Director, Safety Training & Development.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, And/or Experience

  • Familiarity with: OSHA standards and workplace safety regulations, Rail and surface transit safety requirements (preferred), Safety topics listed (e.g., PPE, LOTO, hazard communication, confined space, etc.)
  • Understanding of: Learning Management Systems (LMS), Training program development and evaluation,
  • Basic budgeting and vendor management processes,
  • Skills: Strong organizational and project coordination skills, Ability to manage multiple training programs and schedules simultaneously, Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
  • Proficiency in: Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Digital content creation tools (for training materials)
  • Analytical skills for: Tracking training effectiveness, Reviewing KPIs, and feedback data

Certification(s) Requirement

  • OSHA certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30)

  • Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT) (a plus)
  • Other Certifications in Instructional Design and related areas (a plus)

Work Hours

  • 8 am-4:30 pm
  • Lunch period (Unpaid): TBD
