BioCloak, Inc. is developing novel, microplastic-free bio-encapsulation formulations for agriculture. We are seeking an innovative, hands-on, action-oriented Formulation Chemist to join our growing product team in New Jersey. Reporting to the Chief Science Officer, this role will play a critical part in designing, developing, and optimizing biodegradable encapsulation systems for animal feed and agricultural inputs. The ideal candidate is a builder and problem-solver with a strong background in materials science, encapsulation techniques, and/or colloid and interface chemistry, and has a passion for bringing eco-conscious solutions to market.
Product Development and Innovation:
- Develop and optimize bio-based encapsulation formulations for the delivery of animal feed additives and agricultural inputs.
- Conduct bench-scale and pilot-scale experiments, including mixing, emulsification, homogenization, spray drying, and encapsulation processes.
- Analyze formulation properties, including particle size, release profile, stability, and environmental compatibility.
- Turn concepts into tangible products.
Collaboration and Execution:
- Work closely with the CSO and broader product team to align technical work with the company's strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners in business development, manufacturing, regulatory, and quality to ensure scalability and compliance.
- Document procedures, results, and data analyses in lab notebooks and technical reports.
Materials and Process Research:
- Investigate new biodegradable materials, encapsulation methods, and carriers aligned with product performance goals.
- Evaluate raw materials for suitability, performance, and sustainability in encapsulation systems.
Quality and Compliance:
- Follow and help establish lab protocols, safety procedures, and regulatory guidelines for agricultural products.
- Support efforts to generate data for regulatory filings and intellectual property claims.
Intellectual Property:
- Manage and protect the company's intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
Education:
- M.S. or Ph.D. preferred in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Animal Health, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
- Candidates with a B.S. and exceptional hands-on lab experience will also be considered.
Experience:
- 2–5 years of industrial or academic experience in formulation science, especially in encapsulation, emulsions, or biopolymers.
- Experience with animal nutrition products or agricultural inputs is a plus.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, including spray dryers, homogenizers, encapsulators, mixers, rheometers, particle size analyzers, etc.
