Libraries Postdoctoral Associate in Health Informatics - Binghamton University

Budget Title: Postdoctoral Associate (SL-1)

Salary: $71,000 (full-time, temporary)

The Binghamton University Libraries invite applications for a Postdoctoral Associate with a focus in Health Informatics. The Associate will explore emerging topics in evidence-based practice to advance Libraries' programming, services and research related to data analysis in local health systems. This position offers opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across Binghamton University and The Guthrie Clinic enabled by the Collaborative Research Agreement established between the two entities in 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Postdoctoral Associate will pursue an active research agenda while contributing to creation and implementation of local workflows that will strengthen the Libraries' position within the University's research enterprise. Sample responsibilities depending on applicant's background include: supporting health data synthesis using available Guthrie Clinic and related data sets; organizing and analyzing large data sets, data modeling and forecasting and designing or applying machine learning approaches to support reliable research outcomes and communicating findings. Candidates should demonstrate quantitative and computational skills and experience with programming languages.

This 12-month appointment is designed as a mentored research and professional development experience. The Postdoctoral Associate will pursue an active research agenda while collaborating with faculty and interdisciplinary partners, periodically contributing as a guest lecturer or instructional collaborator. The Associate will receive structured mentorship, participate in professional development opportunities across the University, and be supported in pursuing approved external training and conference opportunities aligned with their scholarly and career goals.

The position reports to the Director for Academic, Community and Global Engagement.

• PhD within the last 5 years in Information and Library Science or a closely related field
• Demonstrated research experience in evidence synthesis, systematic review, data curation, health informatics, or related area
• Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and develop productive professional partnerships

Preferred:

• Demonstrated success with creative data projects in library science or related fields
• Record of scholarly activity related to experiential learning
