Polymer Extrusion Process Technician

Shift Schedule: Second Shift 6pm-6:30am Mon–Weds, 6pm–10:30pm Thurs
A day in the life
As the sun sets in Fredericksburg, you arrive at our Jamison Lane facility and bring the extrusion lines to life. You review the work order, check drawings, and configure equipment to spec. Throughout the night, you keep a watchful eye on temperatures, pressures, and line speed—making precise adjustments so every run meets quality targets while minimizing scrap and downtime. When an alarm sounds, you troubleshoot quickly, collaborate with maintenance if needed, and communicate status so production keeps moving safely and smoothly.
What you'll do
- Set up extrusion lines and diagnose machine issues to restore optimal performance fast.
- Interpret drawings, plans, and work orders to determine tooling, configuration, and material requirements.
- Follow production schedules and coordinate with cross-functional teams to optimize throughput.
- Respond rapidly to equipment shutdowns and share actionable updates with teammates.
- Operate and monitor extrusion equipment to deliver consistent, repeatable results.
- Verify product quality and make targeted adjustments to stay within spec.
- Oversee material supply, product flow, and equipment performance for steady operations.
- Partner with maintenance for timely repairs and with engineers/managers to create and improve SOCs and SOPs.
- Identify process and efficiency improvements to reduce waste and downtime.
- Accurately log production data, quality checks, maintenance activities, and downtime incidents.
- Champion safety by following all regulations, policies, and initiatives; report injuries, accidents, first-aid events, and hazards.
- Help identify and eliminate security risks.
- Take on additional duties as assigned; responsibilities may evolve at leadership’s discretion.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or relevant training preferred.
- 3 years as an Extrusion Operator with proven mastery of extrusion processes; experience with Davis Standard machinery is a plus.
- Solid knowledge of extrusion equipment, configurations, and process parameters.
- Basic computer skills for data entry, monitoring, and communications.
Physical Requirements: This position may require frequent bending, lifting, and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees should be able to perform this duty with or without reasonable accommodations.
