Job Summary
The Construction Field Supervisor oversees personnel responsible for the daily planning and execution of construction projects performed by both Company and contractor teams. The role ensures that all projects are executed in alignment with Company standards, specifications, schedules, and requirements, while optimizing Return on Investment (ROI). The position also manages construction permitting activities, coordinates resource allocation, and works closely with construction planning personnel to establish and maintain agreed-upon construction schedules. This role leads continuous improvement (CI) efforts across assigned groups. Span of control: approximately 5 jobs and up to 15 FTEs.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure contractors construct facilities in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and operator qualification requirements.
- Manage and monitor construction schedules; coordinate all construction activities across relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain and communicate current construction action plans to support workload prioritization.
- Address and resolve escalated project issues by collaborating with contractors, customers, agencies, and other involved parties to identify effective scheduling and project solutions.
- Review as-built drawings prior to approving contractor payments.
- Partner with the construction planning group to evaluate technical designs and promote cost-effective installation solutions.
- Apply and support the integration of new construction materials, methods, and technologies where appropriate.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency in both customer- and Company-driven workflows.
- Monitor workload distribution to ensure that work activities are planned and executed according to priority.
- Track staff productivity and adjust workloads as needed to ensure performance standards are met.
- Maintain balanced resource allocation to ensure timely and effective project planning, prioritization, and execution.
- Serve as a liaison between union and management, ensuring consistent application of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including process design, quality/quantity standards, best practice implementation, and staff development.
- Utilize process design outputs to resolve operational challenges.
- May act as key tag protection leader and/or job leader in accordance with Company policy.
- Perform all core supervisory responsibilities, including planning, organizing, directing daily activities, managing special projects, staffing (selection, training, coaching, performance management), time entry, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or certificate in engineering, construction management, or other relevant discipline.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management.
- Experience in Renewable Energy, Underground/Overhead, Substation, or Civil Trades; or journeyman electrician certification.
Other Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Maximo, and other applicable software, typically gained through 1 years of substantive use.
- Experience managing multiple projects and interacting with customers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface effectively at all organizational levels.
- Analytical and problem-solving capabilities to assess broad alternatives and recommend optimal solutions.
- Thorough understanding of project management concepts, processes, design, procurement, and construction controls.
- Experience applying project planning, implementation, and/or continuous improvement principles to produce measurable outcomes.
- Ability to address resistance constructively and prevent recurrence of errors through practical critique.
