Director of Enterprise Data Management. This is a remote direct hire position. This role requires a director who has built Data Management programs from scratch for highly regulated industries: Healthcare/Hospitals or Financial Services/Fintech with large data volumes for enterprise level organizations. The Dir of Enterprise Data Management will develop and lead an enterprise-wide data management strategy, data quality, integrity, security, and compliance. This leader will build and sustain a comprehensive data governance framework that empowers enterprise data-driven decisions.
What You Bring to the Role (Ideal Experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field - Master’s degree preferred.
- 12 years of progressive experience in data governance, data management, data quality, or related disciplines.
- 5 years of leadership experience managing teams and large-scale data initiatives.
- Expertise in data management and governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), metadata management, master data management, and data quality management.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements (HIPAA, FERPA, PCI DSS, GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience leading organizational change and influencing cross-functional alignment.
- Experience with modern data governance tools and platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Talend).
- Professional certifications such as CDMP or DGSP are a plus.
What You’ll Do (Skills Used in this Position)
- Build, implement, and evolve an enterprise-wide data governance and management program aligned with strategic goals and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to define the vision, roadmap, and priorities for enterprise data strategy.
Policy & Standards Management
- Develop and maintain data governance policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Ensure alignment with internal needs, external regulations, and industry best practices.
- Lead the creation and review of data definitions, taxonomies, and classification schemes.
Data Quality & Integrity
- Establish and track enterprise data quality metrics and KPIs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and reliability.
- Oversee data profiling, cleansing, and enrichment in partnership with data stewards and technical teams.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Serve as the primary liaison between business units, IT, compliance, and leadership stakeholders.
- Facilitate data governance councils, working groups, and forums.
- Promote a data-driven culture through training, communication, and change-management efforts.
- Present program updates to senior and executive leaders.
- Participate in industry events to promote continuous learning and improvement.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Interpret and ensure compliance with data privacy, security, and retention standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and security teams on audits and incident responses.
Data Stewardship & Ownership
- Build and support a network of data stewards and data owners across the organization.
- Define stewardship roles, responsibilities, and accountability models.
- Support onboarding, development, and empowerment of data governance leaders.
Technology & Tool Enablement
- Partner with IT and data engineering to select and optimize data governance platforms, data catalogs, and metadata management tools.
- Integrate governance policies and controls into enterprise systems and workflows.
- Evaluate emerging technologies to advance the data management ecosystem.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing data governance and management team.
- Set performance objectives and support career development.
