Job Description
Assists the Chief Engineer in overseeing the Engineering and Security departments and acts in the Chief Engineer’s absence to ensure the functionality and safety of the facility, including the physical building, mechanical equipment, electrical systems, heating and cooling systems and life safety systems in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations. Assigns work, supervises staff and verifies the completion of all routine maintenance and repairs. The Assistant Manager will assist the Chief Engineer with interviewing, training, supervising, counseling, scheduling and evaluating Engineering and Security staff, collaborating with the Security Supervisor and Engineering Manager.
Based on the operational needs of The Inn (24-hour hotel). Expectation of leadership coverage 7 days a week, split between Chief & Asst. Manager. Include holidays & weekends.

Job Duties
Daily Operations and routine Maintenance
- Act in capacity of Chief Engineer during his absence.
- Have a thorough knowledge of:
- Inn layout, features/services, hours of operation.
- Room types, numbers and location.
- Room availability and status for any given day.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned
- Knowledgeable of maintenance on all kitchen equipment.
- Inspect supply levels, cleanliness and organization of storage areas. Assign
reordering of supplies for both Engineering and security.
- Identify and recommend methods and techniques which are cost effective to
- Work with Chief Engineer in planning and ordering materials for special
scheduling conflicts.
- Monitor completion of work orders received from all Inn departments.
- Maintain timelines and work schedule for PM program of guest rooms and
- Schedule and prioritize PM of kitchen, gas, and electric equipment.
- Oversee hotel HVAC equipment maintenance.
- Oversee monthly life safety tests throughout the Inn.
- Direct Security Supervisor in quarterly fire evacuation drills with all

- Participate in departmental and operations meetings.
- Participate with the Chief Engineer in preparing the annual budget.
- Participate with the Chief Engineer in organizing and executing capital
- Recommend and implement energy saving methods.
- Recommend safety ideas; participate in fire prevention and other life safety
- Conduct monthly inspections in areas of responsibilities and take immediate
- Assist Chief Engineer in annual building and equipment inspections.
- Ensure that assigned staff has reported to work; document any late or absent
- Coordinate breaks for assigned staff.
- Prepare and distribute work assignments for staff and review priorities.
- Observe staff performance and ensure all procedures are completed to
personnel.
- Conduct training of staff as needed.
- Provide feedback on staff performance to Chief Engineer. Report disciplinary
- Insure all staff assignments are completed and pertinent information
- Work with Chief Engineer to complete staff evaluations.

Qualifications
- High school graduate (or GED)
- Possess a valid NC driver’s license
- Five years’ facilities experience in building maintenance including
- Previous experience in an upscale hotel/resort (4/5 star/diamond)
- Demonstrated leadership and/or previous supervisory experience
- Ability to effectively plan, organize, and coordinate
- Fluency in job related English, both verbal and written.
- Compute basic mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply and
- Building trade licenses /certificates desirable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Carpentry skills desirable
- Working knowledge of:
- Building & safety codes
- Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment.
- Knowledge of water treatment.
- Proper chemical handling and disposal
- Able to read blueprints, plumbing, and wiring schematics.
- Ability to use power and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical trades.
