What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Worker position at Billy the Kid Produce?
Must be able to work long hours, standing for long periods of time and in all types of weather conditions (cold, heat, wind, wet, etc.) Workers will be driving a forklift, scissor lift and pallet jack. They will also report any issues back to management and perform general machinery tasks related to their individual job as line equipment operators (i.e., reloading sewing thread, replacing slip sheets & pallets), making sure equipment is ready and telling management if equipment needs maintenance or repairs. Additionally, they will assist in pre- and post-season machine equipment maintenance & cleaning. Workers must report any machinery issues back to management and perform general machinery maintenance, ensure equipment is ready & working properly; report if maintenance or repairs are needed. Repair and Maintain buildings and other structures. Drivers will ensure their forklift is fully operational by completing the forklift checklist each day and inform office personnel of any malfunctions. Workers will adjust, repair and service equipment and notify supervisors when machine malfunctions. Observe and listen to machinery operations to detect any equipment malfunctions. Operate and tend to onion sizer used to size onions designated to each packing line, taping boxes closed, tying & lifting sacks, placing container (bag or box) on packing equipment, cleaning up (picking onions off the floor & sweeping), pushing & tagging bins, opening onion container and dump product onto bins, oversee maintenance and mechanical & equipment repairs to onion cup sizer, hang bags onto equipment. Oversee quantity and flow of onion products to packing lines. Operate trucks or other multipurpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (weather on or off the farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach the farm fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess an appropriate license, no one will be rejected for this position that does not possess a driver’s license.
Employer may request but cannot require workers to work on their Sabbath Day. The hours offered may vary based on factors such as weather or other unpredictable variables that impact operation.
