MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST JOB DESCRIPTION
Overview
We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional administrative support while ensuring smooth clinic operations. This role requires strong knowledge of medical office procedures, EMR systems, and excellent communication skills to deliver outstanding patient service and maintain accurate medical records. Experience with various healthcare software is highly desirable. The Medical Receptionist will play a vital role in managing patient scheduling, insurance verification, documentation review, and maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients professionally and provide excellent front desk customer service
- Excellent attendance and dependability
- Schedule patient appointments using Practice Management/EMR systems
- Verify insurance coverage
- Manage patient check-in and check-out processes accurately
- Collect payments
- Maintain and update electronic health records (EHR systems)
- Review medical documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Manage multi-line phone systems with proper phone etiquette
- Manage patient intake forms and ensure proper documentation review
- Assist with office management tasks such as filing, data entry, and maintaining medical records
- Support clinic staff with administrative duties including appointment reminders and care plan documentation
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9 & ICD-10), and medical billing practices
- Experience with insurance verification processes including Medicare and other insurance providers
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing (10 key typing)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with medical referral process
Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and record keeping
- Effective communication skills with professional phone etiquette and customer service orientation
- Prior clinic or dental office experience is preferred but not required; relevant office management or administrative experience is beneficial
- Knowledge of health information management practices and medical office management procedures
