About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Master Mechanic to support our expanding company. This role requires mastery in diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of heavy earthmoving equipment used in demanding, high-production environments. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of large fleet assets, including mining-class machinery, and can deliver reliable, safe, and efficient equipment performance.
You will be a key contributor to minimizing downtime, supporting field operations, and ensuring that all equipment meets the rigorous demands of construction and mining job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform expert-level diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on construction and mining equipment, including dozers, excavators, articulated and rigid-frame haul trucks, loaders, graders, scrapers, and other specialized machinery.
- Inspect and repair engines, transmissions, torque converters, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, undercarriages, and electrical systems.
- Service high-horsepower engines and mining-class machines (e.g., CAT 777/785 trucks, large excavators, and shovels) when applicable.
- Troubleshoot and calibrate advanced hydraulics, telematics systems, electronic controls, Tier 4 systems, and emissions components.
- Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) and ensure all equipment meets operational, production, and safety standards specific to construction and mining environments.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns both in the shop and in the field—often in remote or rugged locations.
- Document work performed, parts used, and maintenance schedules accurately.
- Mentor and train junior mechanics on best practices for safety, diagnostics, and repairs.
- Oversee scheduling, ordering and staffing for completion of projects in a timely and efficient manner.
- Work with project managers and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime during peak production periods.
- Comply with all construction and mining safety protocols, including site-specific requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and equipment isolation.
Qualifications
Required:
- 7 years of heavy equipment mechanic experience, with significant exposure to construction and/or mining equipment.
- Master-level expertise in diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
- Ability to diagnose equipment using OEM diagnostic software and onboard computer systems.
- Strong understanding of off-road equipment safety regulations, including construction and mining industry standards.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet company driving requirements.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance in high-risk environments.
Preferred:
- MSHA certification (Surface Mine or Underground) or willingness to obtain it.
- OSHA 10/30 training for construction environments.
- Welding and fabrication experience (stick, MIG, torch cutting).
- CDL Class A or B license.
- Prior experience mentoring or supervising technicians.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to work in extreme weather and demanding outdoor conditions (dust, heat, cold, vibration, noise).
- Ability to climb on/off machinery, work at heights, and maneuver in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work long hours, nights, or weekends during peak operations.
