Job Title:  ESL Coordinator                                                                 Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to:  Bilingual/ESL Executive Director                                       Pay Grade:  Admin Pay Grade 5

Dept./School: Bilingual and ESL Department                                         Days: 227

Primary Purpose:  To ensure that every teacher has the skills and instructional strategies to facilitate differentiation and modification for Emergent Bilingual students; to coordinate the district’s ESL program; to collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to formulate, develop, implement, and evaluate the  ESL program and initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Master’s Degree (preferred)
  • Principal Certificate (preferred)
  • Bilingual and/or ESL Certified

 

Special Knowledge Skills:

  • Knowledge of bilingual and ESL programs
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish, but not required
  • Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, and public speaking in English
  • Knowledge of TEKS, STAAR, ELPS, TELPAS and state/federal accountability

 

Experience:

  • Experience creating and presenting professional development
  • Experience with computer technology and software
  • Involvement with parents and students
  • Community and/or school involvement
  • Minimum five years successful bilingual and/or ESL classroom teaching

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinates instructional and curriculum services in ESL Program to meet students’ needs;
  • Monitors district and program initiatives to meet the needs of Emergent Bilingual students and to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching/learning process;
  • Attends state and district trainings involving program compliance and updates;
  • Monitor program compliance and coding to ensure accurate PEIMS reporting.
  • Provides district-wide staff development sessions for meeting the needs of Emergent Bilingual students in all instructional settings;
  • Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs;
  • Actively collaborates with academics and assessment departments to develop district assessments;
  • Plans and implements identification procedures (assessment, placement, and evaluation tracking) for all limited English proficient students.
  • Coordinate summer school learning and implementation for Emergent Bilingual students in the ESL program;
  • Assists and supports teachers and campus administrators in planning the overall instructional program for Emergent Bilingual students, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, assessment techniques, and use of technology;
  • Serves as consultant to the LPAC on special education ARD committee meetings for Emergent Bilingual students;
  • Supports campus principals, instructional consultants, counselors, and teachers to meet the specific individual needs of Emergent Bilingual students and works to improve the course of studies related to ESL programs;
  • Involves students, parents, and others from the community in serving the ESL program as volunteers, advisors, and aides; serves as a parent and community liaison.
  • Communicates district curriculum, instructional practices, accomplishments, goals, and new directions to parents and the community and solicits their input;
  • Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for educators; and
  • Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and assigned.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review.
  • Monitor the use of academic resources and digital tools for alignment and effectiveness.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of district Academic and Accountability initiatives.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Participate in campus visits to assess Academic and Accountability implementation and provide support
  • Collaborate with departments such as, but not limited to, Special Educations, Academics, CCMR, Accountability, CTE, to ensure equity and coherence.
  • Maintain consistent communication systems across elementary and secondary campuses and bilingual/ESL teams.
