This role involves preparing financial statements, maintaining the general ledger, conducting reconciliations, and assisting with audits, and regulatory reporting. The Financial Accountant works closely with internal teams, auditors, and management to maintain strong financial controls and drive consistent financial performance.
Key Job Duties And Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure reports comply with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Analyze financial results and provide commentary on variances and trends.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Monitor account balances accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and maintain fixed assets subledger.
- Perform bank, account, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support management with financial insights to assist decision-making.
- Assist in developing annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Track actual performance vs. budget and provide variance explanations.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and company policies.
- Support implementation and monitoring of internal controls.
- Prepare documentation for audits and assist external and internal auditors.
- Prepare and maintain documentation of company accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepare or assist in preparing tax filings, including sales tax, corporate tax, and payroll tax.
- Keep updated with changes in financial regulations and taxation.
- Review AP/AR transactions for accuracy and proper coding.
- Support month-end closing tasks and ensure cut-off accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows.
- Support automation initiatives and financial system upgrades.
- Work with other departments (HR, operations, auction teams, etc.) to resolve financial issues.
- Provide financial guidance and respond to information requests from management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
- 3–5 years of professional accounting experience, including general ledger work and month-end close.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage deadlines and communicate effectively across departments.
