Job description:
A Traffic Control Supervisor's job is to ensure the safe and efficient flow of traffic, particularly in construction zones and other areas where traffic is temporarily disrupted. They oversee the implementation and maintenance of traffic control devices, train and supervise personnel, and coordinate with other agencies and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting up and maintaining traffic control devices: This includes setting up signs, cones, barricades, and other equipment to direct traffic safely around work zones.
- Supervising personnel: Training, coordinating, and monitoring the work of traffic control personnel, such as flaggers and drivers.
- Communication and coordination: Communicating with customers, other agencies (like law enforcement), and construction crews to ensure effective traffic management and address any issues.
- Ensuring compliance: Adhering to all relevant traffic control guidelines, standards (e.g., MUTCD), and regulations.
- Monitoring and adjusting: Observing traffic patterns, identifying potential issues, and making adjustments to traffic control plans as needed.
- Responding to incidents: Handling traffic incidents and emergencies, such as accidents or breakdowns, by coordinating with emergency services and law enforcement.
- Documentation and reporting: Maintaining records of traffic control operations and preparing reports.
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications:
- Traffic Control Supervisor certification required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Display a willing attitude to learn from others.
- Possess a strong sense of personal responsibility.
- Focus to work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment and underground utilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.
Physical Requirements:
- Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
- Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently. Able to stand for extended periods of time without scheduled breaks.
- Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
- Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.
