Job Description: Associate Project Manager
Hours: Full Time (40 hours per week)
Salary: $55,000 - $65,000
Reports To: Environmental Director
Start Date: October 1, 2025
Term & Renewal: This is a full-time position for one year (October 2025 – June 2026), with anticipated renewal through 2029 based on performance and project funding.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians (BVR) seeks a full-time Associate Project Manager to support implementation of the CHARM (Community Health Adaptation and Resilience Mobilization) initiative. CHARM is a multi-year, community-engaged intervention designed to strengthen climate resilience and public health capacity across eight community sites in Lake County. This project is led in partnership by Big Valley Environmental Protection Department and Tracking California, an Oakland-based nonprofit program of the Public Health Institute. The Associate Project Manager will serve as a key member of the local implementation team. They will work closely with Tracking California staff, community partners, and research staff to support execution of a milestone-driven work plan, including pilot implementation of the community intervention, overseeing data collection staff, and delivery of climate-health interventions.
Qualifications:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Project Coordination & Implementation
· Collaborate with BVR and Tracking California teams to implement the CHARM project in accordance with the funded workplan.
· Coordinate logistics for planning meetings, trainings, and community workshops.
· Support BVR Environmental Director with day-to-day execution of the CARI (Community Adaptation and Resilience Intervention) pilot and full intervention activities at BVR and assist the designated resilience centers as needed.
· Track and help ensure timely completion of project milestones and deliverables.
Data Collection & Participant Engagement
· Assist in hiring and supervision of local Project Assistants responsible for survey administration, participant enrollment, and follow-up.
· Maintain regular communication with the Tracking California research team to support data quality, participant tracking, and human subjects’ protection.
· Ensure respectful, culturally appropriate, and confidential interactions with Tribal and non-Tribal community members.
Center Coordination & Partner Engagement
· With the Tracking California team, coordinate on behalf of BVR with participating centers and external partners through relationship building and logistics management.
· Provide support and feedback to strengthen the capacity of local centers to act as resilience hubs during extreme heat events.
Administrative Support
· Document activities, maintain project files, and assist with reporting to funders and partners as needed.
· Work with the Big Valley administrative team and Supervisor to manage project budgets, supplies, and equipment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required:
· Experience in project coordination or community outreach (at least 2 years preferred).
· Background or training in environmental health, emergency preparedness, public health, or community development.
· Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Demonstrated experience working with Tribal communities and/or in culturally diverse settings.
· Ability to work collaboratively and independently, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and basic data entry platforms.
Preferred:
· Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
· Experience with community-based participatory research or grant funded research projects.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be eligible for coverage under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
2. Must possess a valid California driver’s license. Must be willing to travel locally, regionally, statewide, and/or out-of-state, as necessary, during or after regular working hours.
3. Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indians in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 25 U.S. Code, § 472 and 473). Applicants claiming Indian preference must submit verification by Tribe of affiliation or other acceptable documentation of Tribal Enrollment.
4. Able to pass a BVR drug test.
5. Work involves sitting, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities, and lifting moderately heavy items, up to 50 lbs.
6. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check, a pre-employment screening, and reference check.
