Job Summary: The Store Clerk is responsible for providing outstanding customer service at the Big Valley Market and Fuel. Primary duties include operating a Point of Sale (POS) system, accurately handling cash and other forms of payment, assisting customers with purchases. As well as daily operations to ensure the store remains clean, stocked, and welcoming.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operating a Point-Of-Sale (POS) system to accurately ring up customer purchases.
- Accept and process payments by cash, credit, debit, and other approved methods.
- Maintain cash drawer accuracy and ensure proper cash handling, including counting cash before and after shifts. Reconciling discrepancies if needed with management.
- Greet customers warmly and assist with product inquiries or issues.
- Ensure shelves are stocked and displayed in a clean, safe and organized manner.
- Support store management in performing routine audits and inventory counts.
- Follow all company policies and standard operating procedures.
- Contribute to achieving sales goals and maintaining store performance standards.
- Maintain cleanliness of checkout area, stockroom, and sales floors.
- Help to achieve sales goals.
- Lift, carry, and move merchandise up to 45 pounds unassisted.
- Other duties if needed.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching required.
- Work is performed in a retail setting with exposure to outdoor elements during certain tasks.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience operating a cash register or POS system is a plus.
- Prior customer service experience in a retail or convenience store setting preferred.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and have a professional demeanor.
- Strong basic math skills and attention to detail for accurate cash handling.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks as necessary.
- Must have a positive attitude and the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
