What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Technician position at Big Shoulders Restoration?
Location: Chicago, IL
Job Type: Hourly
Compensation: $27 - $30/hr
Reports To: Field Operations Lead
We are seeking a Reconstruction Technician to join Big Shoulders Restoration. This is not a typical technician role — it’s an opportunity to help launch, scale, and lead one of the Chicago land area's most ambitious restoration businesses.
Many experienced technicians in construction and restoration feel:
- Stuck under layers of a big company hierarchy, where decisions take too long and money matters more than customers.
- Capped in career growth, with no clear path beyond a technician role.
- Frustrated with bureaucracy and one-size-fits-all processes that stifle craftsmanship and quality.
This role is designed to be the opposite. As our Reconstruction Technician, you will:
- Have a direct voice in operations — not just follow orders. You’ll work side-by-side with leadership and help shape how we rebuild properties the right way.
- Build the foundation of a new market, influencing our quality standards, processes, and reputation from day one.
- Gain faster advancement opportunities. Grow from technician to Crew Lead and beyond based on performance, not tenure.
- Join a team built on craftsmanship, speed, and accountability — not corporate quotas.
Start hands-on and grow fast. As Big Shoulders Restoration expands its reconstruction division, this role can evolve into a Crew Lead or Project Manager position.
This is the right opportunity if you take pride in your work and want to build something meaningful — with real upside.
