What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kitchen Operations Program Builder position at Big Saver Foods?
We're Not Just Hiring a Specialist. We're Looking for a Builder.
Big Saver Foods is transforming the in-store food experience for Hispanic and mainstream shoppers alike. With 8 stores (and a 9th on the way), we’ve seen our prepared foods and bakery departments ignite growth—but we’re just getting started. We need a Kitchen Operations Builder who can take us from good to great by creating the systems, teams, recipes, and culture that make our prepared foods departments best-in-class.
This isn’t a “manage what exists” job. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves and build it opportunity.
Your Mission:
- Build teams – Identify, develop, and lead store-level kitchen staff, even if they start with limited experience.
- Build recipes – Create scalable, costed, margin-positive recipes that taste great and perform well in a retail environment.
- Build systems – Design SOPs, production schedules, quality controls, and kitchen workflows that can run across all stores.
- Build programs – Launch seasonal menus, new hot case programs, catering options, or cross-promotions in partnership with marketing and category leads.
- Own the numbers – Calculate food cost, yield, labor targets, margin mix, and performance metrics to guide smart decisions.
What You Bring
- Proven experience leading multi-store foodservice, restaurant, or grocery kitchen operations.
- Strong understanding of food cost formulas, yield calculations, and margin building.
- Hands-on leadership—you know how to take over a kitchen, assess quickly, and coach others to success.
- Passion for Hispanic and Latin cuisines, with the creativity to make them shine in a modern retail setting.
- Comfortable with building from scratch—you like to create systems, not just maintain them.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) highly preferred.
- Local knowledge of LA and Orange County food culture and labor market is
Why This Role Matters
You won’t just be improving what's there—you’ll be creating what’s next for a fast-growing grocery company with deep roots in the communities we serve. We want a prepared foods department that runs with the consistency of a great restaurant chain, but with the soul of a neighborhood market. You’ll be the one to make that vision real.
This is a career-defining opportunity for someone who knows kitchens, knows numbers, and knows how to lead.
If you’re ready to build something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you.
