Company Overview

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Gulf Coast is the largest one-to-one mentoring organization in south Alabama and Mississippi. Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We enlist volunteers, Bigs, to help children, Littles, realize their potential and build their futures. We nurture children and strengthen communities through two programs, Community and School-based. Through these two programs, we typically enroll children ages 6-15 and continue supporting the match through age 18. What sets us apart from other mentoring organizations is our ongoing, professional support for the duration of the match. Because we are a completely donor-supported organization, we depend on individuals and events periodically through the year for donations which creates new, life-changing friendships, sustain our ongoing mentoring programs, and enable us to continue new, expanded services to support children and families across south Alabama and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Job Summary

The Development Coordinator is critical to our growth and mission fulfillment. They will help generate and retain the funding and brand awareness necessary to fuel our mentoring programs. The position will work directly with our dynamic CEO and Board of Directors. The role is responsible for assisting with and implementing the overall development strategy, including special events support, peer-to-peer fundraising, employee engagement, corporate sponsorships, community engagement, stewardship, and database management.

Responsibilities
Essential Function 1: Plan and manage fundraising and volunteer recruitment events

  • Coordinates the planning, preparation, and execution of all event details associated with annual special events (invitations, communication, social media, etc.), peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns (fundraising page signup, communication, social media, etc.), volunteer recruitment events (guests and vendors, social media, etc.), and Small Party Gatherings (host, guests, vendors, etc.)
  • Supports CEO in managing volunteer committees
  • Ensures expenses remain within budget
  • Ensures proper stewardship following events
  • Ensures activities are properly documented in CRM
  • Provides CEO reports as requested

Essential Function 2: Coordinate and implement all direct solicitation and stewardship activities

  • In coordination with CEO, schedules, produces, and disseminates brand-compliant, accurate, and compelling printed and electronic solicitation and stewardship correspondence
  • Prepares print thank you letters for CEO signature and packages them for distribution
  • Ensures accuracy of online giving portal acknowledgement and thank you correspondence
  • Ensures accuracy of email lists
  • Documents all activities in agency CRM
  • Schedules and assigns appropriate donor touchpoints
  • Provides CEO reports as needed

Essential Function 3: Coordinate and implement Corporate and Community Engagement Plan

  • In coordination with CEO, develops and implements an acquisition plan to grow number of Corporate Big relationships within the agency’s service area
  • Identifies ideal Corporate Big partners through market research and other methods to identify businesses who are looking to engage their employees as volunteers and/or support the agency through mission sponsorships
  • Supports CEO in building relationships with potential Corporate Big partners and Community partners in scheduling discovery meetings
  • Supports Programs Team in setting up volunteer information sessions for overall community engagement including corporate opportunities.

Essential Function 4: Manages development database

  • Processes all gifts accurately
  • Enters all offline donations properly providing soft credit when appropriate
  • Maintains accurate contact records for donor and updates regularly
  • Ensures databases from external systems are uploaded properly
  • Documents donor activity (moves management)

Essential Function 5: Provides scheduling and administrative support to CEO

  • Schedules discovery meetings with CEO and prospective donors
  • Produces meeting materials for CEO
  • Documents meeting outcomes in CRM
  • Schedules next moves for CEO and Board of Directors

Experience

  • Minimum of one-year post-degree relevant work experience preferred. Priority given to applicants with track record of proven success in development or corporate sales
  • Experience running campaigns and successful fundraising from multiple donor channels
  • Experience in planning and managing projects, as well as tracking and reporting on progress to senior management
  • Experience with social media platforms required (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite)
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Google Suite, and Zoom required.
  • Experience with Canva (or other design platforms), website content management systems (e.g., Wix, Wordpress), Classy/Salesforce (or other CRMs) preferred
  • Experience in a youth development/service field preferred

Physical Demands of the Job

  • This job requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
  • Worker must frequently use typical office equipment (telephone, copier, printer, fax, etc.)
  • Worker must have a cell phone with an unlimited data plan for use in the role (will be partially reimbursed with a monthly stipend)
  • Worker sits most of the time
  • Worker communicates with constituents, clients, and/or partners by phone and in person
  • Must be able to navigate locations that are not ADA compliant. Routinely required to travel by car
  • Worker must have their own car for use in the role (mileage will be reimbursed at set per mile rate)

Work Environment

  • This is a hybrid position—ability to work remote with the opportunity to work in a climate-controlled office setting
  • Must be willing to work with some frequency hours outside normal office hours to ensure BBBS of the Central Gulf Coast presence in the community, attend BBBS of the Central Gulf Coast events and other networking events, meet donors/stakeholders, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
