The Manager of Community Engagement & Recruitment is responsible for building and sustaining a strong, diverse, and mission-aligned volunteer pipeline that meets the needs of youth served by BBBSTC. Through consideration of program needs and geographic considerations, the manager prioritizes alignment with the specific requests and preferences of youth participants seeking mentorship opportunities, while also supporting broader agency goals and priorities. This role is the primary driver of volunteer inquiry generation, relationship-based recruitment, and conversion—ensuring that qualified volunteers are recruited, supported, and matched in a timely and high-quality way.
Working closely with the Director of Community Engagement & Recruitment, this role owns the day-to-day execution of volunteer recruitment strategies and is accountable for pipeline health, including volume, diversity, responsiveness, and experience, and supports design and execution of targeted youth recruitment strategies. Success in this role requires leading the day-to-day operations of community engagement and recruitment by managing resources, aligning cross-team efforts, and translating strategy into effective systems and practices that strengthen the volunteer pipeline and experience.
This position leverages Salesforce to ensure efficient communication, tracking, and follow-up with prospective volunteers and community partners. The role is externally facing—building and stewarding relationships in the community—and internally collaborative, working closely with Programs, Marketing & Communications, Data & Impact, and Development to ensure recruitment efforts are aligned, coordinated, and responsive to youth needs.

Education And Experience
This position operates in a hybrid environment that includes office work and frequent presence in community and event settings. The role requires the ability to set up and break down outreach and tabling materials, including lifting, carrying, and transporting items up to approximately 40–50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The position also requires extended periods of standing, walking, and engaging with the public at community events, as well as regular use of standard office equipment and technology such as computers, mobile devices, and phones. Reliable transportation is required to travel to community locations throughout the Twin Cities.

- Growth and health of a relationship-centered volunteer enrollment pipeline, with an emphasis on high-touch engagement from first point of contact through enrollment
- Increased recruitment and retention of high-priority volunteer and youth populations through intentional community presence, relationship-building, and outreach (including tabling, events, and in-community engagement)
- Improved response times, conversion rates from inquiry to application, and overall volunteer experience through personalized, timely, and consistent communication

Volunteer Recruitment &Pipeline Management
- Own and lead volunteer recruitment efforts that generate consistent, high-quality inquiries aligned with program needs, geography, and priority populations.
- Manage the flow of volunteer inquiries through application and enrollment, ensuring timely, high-touch communication through phone, text, and email.
- Build and maintain a relationship-centered recruitment approach, engaging prospective volunteers through regular outreach, follow-up, and personalized communication.
- Remain flexible to pivot efforts toward targeted youth recruitment efforts as needs arise.
- Manage the full recruitment pipeline from inquiry through interview, ensuring timely, proactive communication via phone, text, email, and in-person interactions.
- Build and maintain relationships with prospective volunteers through regular outreach, follow-up calls, and text communication to move individuals through the process with clarity and connection.
- Identify monthly recruitment priorities and focus areas for volunteers and youth, maintaining momentum and accountability toward goals.
- Partner closely with Program teams to ensure smooth transitions from recruitment to matching and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement & Recruitment to develop and implement annual strategies that increase volunteer participation, improve conversion rates, and increase matches.
- Create and drive strategies that increase recruitment and representation of high priority volunteers, especially male-identying and Black/African American and Hispanic/Latinx communities
- Engage regularly in the community (e.g., tabling, events, outreach) to build awareness, relationships, and a strong recruitment pipeline.
- Deliver a relationship-centered, high-touch volunteer experience through consistent, personalized engagement across in-person, phone, and text communication.
- Ensure volunteers receive timely responses, clear expectations, and consistent follow-through throughout the recruitment and enrollment process.
- Partner with Marketing & Communications to develop and refresh recruitment materials and messaging for diverse audiences and settings.
- Adapt presentations and messaging to connect with community-based, faith-based, affinity-based, and corporate volunteer audiences.
- Serve as a visible representative of BBBSTC in the community, actively building relationships that lead to volunteer interest and enrollment.
- Support ongoing recruitment and engagement activities such as community engagements, Lunch & Learns, and “Mentoring Conversations in Community.”
- Build and steward relationships with community leaders, corporate partners, and grassroots connectors to generate sustained recruitment opportunities.
- Conduct proactive outreach (including in-person engagement) to expand recruitment beyond passive or digital-only strategies.
- Organize and co-facilitate unique recruitment campaigns such as phone-a-thons, specific focused or themed campaigns, and work with BBBSTC ambassadors.
- Use Salesforce CRM to track volunteer inquiries, communication, progress, and conversion—ensuring accurate, timely, and useful data.
- Leverage data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities to improve recruitment efficiency and volunteer experience.
- Collaborate with Data & Impact and the Director of Community Engagement & Recruitment to analyze recruitment metrics and progress toward goals.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that reduce friction, increase responsiveness, and improve conversion outcomes.
- Maintain clear documentation of recruitment processes, procedures, and workflows in designated areas.
- Carry out additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned to advance the agency’s mission and strategic goals.

Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sales and marketing, or related field. Or equivalent combination in school and experience.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in recruitment, business, education, sales, or related.
- At least 2 years experience building strong partnerships and relationships with people from diverse, including corporations and community groups/organizations and public speaking and presenting (via live/recorded, in-person and virtual methods).
- Experience working with Salesforce/Database CRM management and Microsoft Suite preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and current auto insurance coverage or have reliable transportation for meeting work responsibilities and priorities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, regularly, on-site and out in the community to engage and connect with families, partners, the community, and potential volunteers.
- Strong communicator who can effectively articulate opportunities for engagement to potential participants (including potential volunteers, parenting adults, and youth).
- Strong, persuasive communicator (written and verbal) with the ability to engage and motivate diverse audiences.
