Position Title: Lead Mentor Part-Time

Overtime Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Program

Location: Battle Creek, MI

Reports To: Associate Director of Programs or Program Manager

Salary: $18.00 - $23.00

# of People Supervises: 0

This position is grant-funded for three years ( June 2024-May 2027) and is contingent upon continued funding availability.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Lead Mentor position aims to provide support and guidance to middle school-aged youth within an assigned middle school. Responsibilities include facilitating group mentoring sessions, implementing specialized curriculum, and offering personalized mentoring to address students' unique needs. Additionally, the Lead Mentor will provide necessary service referrals and strive to foster stronger family engagement within the school community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Conducts group mentoring according to a timetable agreed upon with the school.

· Tracks progress for each participant ("Little") and maintains detailed progress monitoring data.

· Develop and implement the mentoring curriculum, adjusting materials as necessary.

· Applies positive behavior management strategies to maintain a safe and engaging group mentoring environment.

· Keeps accurate attendance records for all mentoring sessions.

· Participates in weekly check-ins with the Supervisor to discuss the Littles' progress and make program adjustments.

· Meets monthly with the school contact and the Supervisor to receive feedback and integrate it into program improvements.

· Integrates seamlessly into the school staff to align with school policies and add value.

· Coordinates communication with parents/guardians, teachers, the Supervisor, and other relevant individuals in the youth's life as needed.

· Maintains positive and productive relationships with school personnel.

· Lead, motivate, and support to ensure the successful implementation of the mentoring program.

· Effectively and proactively communicates and collaborates with school and BBBS program staff.

· Strong group facilitation skills, specifically working with youth.

· Strong understanding of child development and family dynamics.

· Supports the Supervisor with the enrollment and assessment of children and volunteers during the summer, including conducting interviews and reference checks.

· Assist with the development and implement mentoring program strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure program effectiveness.

· Assist with managing resources, including budget and materials, to support the mentoring program’s operations and activities.

· Assumes additional duties as assigned.

GENERAL

· Attend required meetings and events as scheduled.

· Attend recruitment events, match activities, fundraising events, and other in-person events as assigned.

· Establish and promote positive communication among all team members of BBBS to increase collaboration and reduce inefficiencies.

· Represent BBBS in a professional manner at all times, providing courteous service to both internal and external constituents and presenting a positive image of BBBS.

· Collaborate with all departments across the agency to ensure a smooth transition among functions.

· Collaborate with all departments across the agency when necessary.

· Abide by BBBS policies and practices.

· Complete 10 hours of Igniting Potential training opportunities per year.

· Complete other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE

· High School Diploma with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in related fields, such as social work, counseling, social services, child development, or education.

· Previous experience working in schools is preferred.

· Experience working with both diverse child and adult populations preferred.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

· Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance that meets the state’s requirements, and be able and willing to travel up to 50% of the time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Routine office environment.

· Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time, along with regular standing, walking, bending, and carrying light objects related to the office.

· Occasional lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds at one time.

· Ability to attend events with large groups both indoor and outdoor in varying weather conditions.

· Minimal travel required. Less than 50%.

· This position will be based out of an assigned school. Attendance at the BBBSMI headquarters will be required when school is not in session and as needed.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; including Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Google Documents.

Working knowledge of and use of a customer relations management (CRM) system is a plus (Salesforce preferred).
