TITLE: Lead Mentor (Level Up)  

DEPARTMENT: Operations; Innovative Programs; Level Up  

REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor   

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time; Exempt  

COMPENSATION: Base salary plus an additional annual supplement recognizing advanced skills and leadership responsibilities aligned with current nonprofit compensation standards.  

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in youth development, human service, counseling, social work, education, or related field preferred 

Position Purpose  

The Lead Mentor plays a vital role in advancing the BBBSMA mission by ensuring that youth and families are thoughtfully recruited, enrolled, and prepared for successful mentoring experiences. This position exercises a high degree of independent judgment and upholds the standards set forth by BBBS and BBBSMA. 

Performance Measures  

Success in this position is measured by positive results in key areas, including volunteer and youth enrollment; effective match support management for all participants; facilitation of sessions and implementation of curriculum; maintenance of file quality, compliance, and data integrity; participant satisfaction as reflected by prompt feedback; strong retention and average match duration; and successful completion of surveys.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

    Recruit and match students for the program.

    Facilitate group and one-on-one mentoring sessions with middle school students to cultivate impactful relationships and provide educational programming focused on goal setting and social-emotional development, following a schedule established by department leadership.  

    Monitor and track student progress by keeping detailed records for each mentee. 

    Develop and implement mentoring activities and curriculum, adjusting materials as needed to meet the specific needs of middle school students.  

    Apply positive behavior management strategies to create a safe and supportive group environment.  

    Keep accurate attendance records for all group and one-on-one mentoring sessions in Salesforce.  

    Participate in scheduled check-ins with the Mentoring Supervisor to review student progress and adjust programming as needed.  

    Meet monthly with the school's point of contact and the Mentoring Coordinator to receive feedback and make program improvements.  

    Integrate into the assigned site staff team to provide additional support and ensure alignment with school policies, culture, and goals.  

    Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, the Mentoring Supervisor, and other key supporters in the students' lives as needed. 

    Support enrollment and assessment of new students during the summer, including conducting interviews and managing reference and background checks.  

Skills and Knowledge Required  

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).  

    Working knowledge of and experience with Salesforce/CRM systems, with a commitment to data quality and process improvement.  

    Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive customer service both in-person and via telephone.  

    Ability to form and sustain appropriate child and adult volunteer-based relationships grounded in positive youth development, trauma-informed care, and volunteer satisfaction.  

    Strong skills in assessment, relational support (guiding, supporting, confronting, advising, negotiating), and conflict resolution.  

    Demonstrated ability to relate well in multicultural environments; effective collaboration with program staff and external partners.  

Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage a large caseload, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet time-sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • This position will be based out of a middle or high school. Attendance at the BBBSMA headquarters will be required when school is not in session and as needed. 
  • Regular hours will be Monday through Friday, aligning with the school hours. 

 COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: 

  • Starting salary is $45,000 based on relevant experience and qualifications. 
  • BBBSMA offers generous benefits including subsidized medical insurance, voluntary dental and vision, and employer-paid Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability. We also offer immediate vesting and enrollment in a 403(b) plan with up to a 4.5% employer match.
