Big Bend Hospice (BBH) is your “Hometown Hospice,” providing compassionate end-of-life care for over 40 years to the Big Bend region. Guided by our values of integrity, respect, and excellence, we are seeking an experienced On-Call Nursing Manager (RN) to lead and support our Triage and On-Call teams. This role is essential in ensuring exceptional after-hours patient care, timely clinical response, and operational excellence during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The ideal candidate for the On-Call Nursing Manager role is a clinically strong, compassionate, and confident nursing leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively balance staff supervision with hands-on patient support. This individual will oversee Triage, On-Call, and Admissions operations during assigned shifts, ensuring quality care, efficient staffing, accurate documentation, and excellent service to patients, families, referral partners, and internal teams. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, problem solver, mentor, and role model who remains calm under pressure and is passionate about hospice care.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:The On-Call Nursing Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Oversee evening, weekend, holiday, and after-hours operations for Triage and On-Call teams.
• Supervise Triage, On-Call, and Admissions staff during assigned shifts.
• Coordinate staffing schedules, approve timecards, and manage coverage needs.
• Ensure timely response to patient, family, and referral calls.
• Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and support to clinical staff.
• Assist with admissions coordination and facilitate timely patient evaluations.
• Serve as a clinical resource for symptom management, patient concerns, and crisis situations.
• Review documentation for quality, compliance, and revenue integrity.
• Conduct field visits and supervisory observations to support staff development.
• Assist with onboarding, orientation, and competency training of team members.
• Participate in interviews and hiring processes as requested.
• Collaborate with physicians, hospitals, referral sources, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Evaluate patient appropriateness for hospice services in conjunction with providers.
• Provide direct patient care as needed to maintain clinical competency and support operations.
• Address customer service concerns and ensure excellent patient/family experiences.
• Promote adherence to BBH policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
• Foster positive morale, teamwork, and professional growth among staff.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
- Friday, Saturday, Sun 7A-8P with an hour lunch each shift.
- Friday can be flexed to another day. Some holidays required.
Travel Requirement:
You must have a reliable vehicle and be willing to be dispatched throughout all 12 counties in Big Bend Hospice service areas.
Qualifications:Education & Experience:
• Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
• Active Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience preferred.
• Hospice or home health experience strongly preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• CHPN certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Intermediate computer skills required.

Requirements:
• Valid Florida driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
• Active RN license in the state of Florida.
• BLS Certification required.
