Big Bend Hospice (BBH) is your “Hometown Hospice” providing compassionate end-of-life care for over 40 years to the Big Bend region. Guided by our values of integrity, respect, and excellence, we are seeking an experienced Volunteer Department Coordinator to join our team.
The ideal candidate for the responsible for recruiting, onboarding, assigning, supervising, recognizing, and managing the performance of a team of volunteers. You will collaborate with Community Relations components to assist in Volunteer recruitment which includes presentations, tabling events, and hosting interest meetings. We are looking for experienced individuals who understand how to creatively attract and retain enthusiastic and highly engaged volunteers.

- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract hospice volunteers.
- Create outreach materials, such as flyers, social media posts, and website content.
- Partner with community organizations, schools, and faith-based groups for recruitment.
- Screen volunteer applicants, including conducting interviews and background checks.
- Facilitate orientation sessions covering hospice philosophy, patient care, confidentiality, and safety.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for volunteers.
- Match volunteers with patients and tasks based on their skills, availability, and preferences.
- Maintain and update schedules to ensure coverage for patients and administrative needs.
- Coordinate visits and provide guidance for specific patient needs or family requests.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, offering regular check-ins and support.
- Address any concerns, conflicts, or issues that arise during volunteer assignments.
- Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions through events, awards, and newsletters.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, hours, and assignments.
- Prepare reports for compliance, quality assurance, and leadership review.
- Ensure adherence to Medicare and organizational requirements for volunteer services.
- Work closely with clinical staff to identify patient and family needs that volunteers can support.
- Attend interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss care plans and volunteer involvement.
- Communicate patient updates and concerns to the appropriate staff members.
- Develop new volunteer roles and programs to meet organizational needs.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the volunteer program through feedback and data analysis.
- Adjust policies, procedures, and training based on program outcomes and industry trends.
- Ensure the program complies with state, federal, and accreditation standards.
- Monitor volunteer adherence to safety and confidentiality policies.
- Implement strategies to mitigate risks associated with volunteer involvement.
- Represent the hospice program at community events, health fairs, and volunteer expos.
- Promote the value of hospice volunteers to stakeholders and the broader community.
- Build partnerships with local organizations to expand the volunteer program.
- Provide emotional support to volunteers, especially after challenging patient experiences or losses.
- Facilitate debriefing sessions or refer volunteers to counseling services as needed.
- Offer grief resources and education to help volunteers navigate the emotional aspects of hospice work.
- Achieve deliverables outlined upon hire.
- These duties ensure that the volunteer program operates smoothly, aligns with hospice values, and provides meaningful support to patients, families, and the care team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
- Monday-Friday: 8:00 am- 5:00 pm.
- On-Site in Tallahassee Florida
Education & Experience:
- BA/BS Degree in public relations, communications, social work, human resources, or a related field.
- or four years’ experience in marketing, public relations, or related field; preferably in health care and with some experience at a management level.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
