Role Description
The Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Tallahassee, FL, responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations to support Big Bend Cares’ programs and services. Typical responsibilities include processing accounts payable and receivable, preparing journal entries, reconciling bank and general ledger accounts, and maintaining accurate financial records. The role also assists with budgeting and forecasting, supports grant and contract reporting, and prepares regular financial statements for leadership. The Accountant ensures compliance with organizational policies, applicable regulations, and nonprofit accounting standards, and collaborates with program staff to provide clear, timely financial information.

Qualifications
- Strong skills in general accounting, including accounts payable/receivable, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to create and interpret financial reports and spreadsheets.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support organizational planning and decision-making.
- Knowledge of nonprofit or grant accounting practices, including compliance with funding requirements and documentation standards.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven environment and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
- Prior experience in nonprofit or healthcare setting is required.
