WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
As a Mechanical Engineer III, your role is pivotal within our engineering team, focused on the design, development, and optimization of sophisticated mechanical solutions tailored for downhole drilling applications in the oil and gas domain. Leveraging your acquired experience and technical skills, you will actively contribute to the creation of cutting-edge drilling tools and technologies, ultimately elevating drilling efficiency and performance. Your collaborative engagement with cross-functional teams will channel your expertise in drilling mechanics and mechanical engineering principles towards ensuring successful project outcomes, all while upholding industry standards and safety protocols. By embracing innovation and engineering excellence, you will play an instrumental role in propelling our downhole drilling initiatives forward.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
- Contribute to the design and development of advanced mechanical systems and components catering to downhole drilling applications
- Apply your expertise to create innovative solutions that address technical challenges and enhance drilling operations
- Assess Participate actively in projects related to downhole drilling mechanical engineering,collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to define project scopes, objectives, and technical requisites
- Assist in project management tasks, ensuring project milestones are met on schedule
- Utilize your adept understanding of drilling mechanics, materials, and engineering principles to optimize the performance and reliability of mechanical systems utilized in downhole drilling
- Engage in the fabrication and validation of prototypes for mechanical components and systems, employing both physical testing and computational simulations to verify performance under diverse operating conditions.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices relevant to downhole drilling and mechanical engineering
- Identify avenues for innovation and propose novel approaches to improve drilling processes and tool designs
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including application engineers and software developers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs with overall drilling operations
- Effectively communicate technical concepts and design recommendations to both technical and non-technical colleague and clients
- Uphold industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols in all mechanical designs and solutions
- Participate in design reviews and quality assurance processes to maintain superior quality standards.
- Actively contribute to the growth and development of junior engineers and team members by providing guidance, mentorship, and technical insights
- Foster an environment of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the engineering team
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience required. (Downhole drilling experience preferred.)
- Experience is required in designing and development of downhole tools from initial layout and solid modeling to prototype production and field tests
- Advanced working knowledge of mechanical design & analysis software applicable to downhole tools (AutoCAD, ANSYS, SolidWorks, PDM)
- Working knowledge of metallurgy, material properties heat treating, and failure analysis principles
- Advanced level of computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite and Excel is required
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and timelines in a demanding environment
- Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain a flexible working schedule to meet customer needs
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and components, up to 25 pounds
- Operate basic office equipment, such as a keyboard, mouse, copier/printer/scanning machine
- Sit and/or stand for long periods of time, up to 8-10 hours a day
- Walk/travel to production areas while wearing appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), which at a minimum includes safety glasses but could also include steel toe shoes/boots and other PPE
- Operate a motor vehicle per company Vehicle Use Requirements
- Ability to travel domestically, 5% or more
