School Psychologist

Position Summary
Houston Independent School District (HISD) is seeking a qualified and dedicated Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) to support student success through comprehensive psychological and behavioral services. The School Psychologist will provide assessments, counseling, and consultation to help students reach their academic, social, and emotional potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the psychological and behavioral needs of students referred for special education services.
• Conduct behavioral observations and provide professional insights on students’ mental health and learning needs.
• Deliver counseling and psychological services as part of special education programming.
• Develop and implement intervention strategies in collaboration with educators, parents, and students.
• Administer standardized psychological tests and conduct clinical interviews.
• Prepare case formulations and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Provide recommendations on emotional/behavioral markers and classroom modifications.
• Conduct training sessions (in-services) for school staff on behavioral and emotional support strategies.
• Prevent, intervene, and evaluate students with emotional, behavioral, or learning disabilities.
• Uphold ethical and professional standards while supporting HISD’s goals and maintaining clear, respectful communication.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
• Valid Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) credential issued by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
• Demonstrated experience supporting students with emotional or behavioral challenges.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple campus assignments across the district.
