Position Overview
The Junior Associate plays a key role in supporting the firm’s litigation practice, particularly in California employment law matters, including individual claims and complex class or representative PAGA and FEHA actions. Working under the supervision of senior attorneys, the Junior Associate will assist with all phases of litigation, from legal research and drafting to discovery and motion practice. The role involves substantive client interaction, court appearances, and increasing responsibility as proficiency develops.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Research & Writing
- Conduct in-depth legal research on employment and procedural issues using Lexis AI, Westlaw, and other legal databases.
- Draft and revise pleadings, motions, discovery documents, memoranda, and correspondence.
- Prepare mediation briefs, trial briefs, and pre-trial filings.
- Utilize AI-assisted tools for legal analysis and drafting efficiency.
Discovery & Case Development
- Draft, review, and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
- Summarize depositions, analyze evidence, and prepare case materials for hearings, mediations, and trials.
- Develop and execute litigation strategy in coordination with senior attorneys.
Client & Court Interaction
- Communicate directly with clients regarding case updates, factual development, and litigation strategy.
- Appear in court, mediations, and depositions as required.
- Maintain professionalism and responsiveness in all client and court interactions.
Case Management & Collaboration
- Manage a portfolio of employment law cases under the direction of a managing attorney.
- Coordinate with paralegals, clerks, and support staff to ensure accurate file management and deadline compliance.
- Contribute to team strategy discussions and participate in firm initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active membership (or pending admission) with the California State Bar.
- 0–2 years of relevant litigation or employment law experience preferred.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with discovery processes, California civil procedure, and employment law fundamentals.
- Proficiency with Lexis AI, Westlaw, Microsoft Office Suite, and case management software (e.g., FileVine, Clio).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
