About the Role:

The Hospital Registered Nurse at Bibb Medical Center plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from surgery or managing acute medical conditions. This position requires the nurse to assess patient health status, develop and implement individualized care plans, and monitor patient progress to ensure optimal recovery outcomes. The nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate treatments, administer medications, and provide patient education. A key outcome of this role is to promote patient safety, comfort, and well-being while facilitating efficient hospital operations. Ultimately, the Med-Surg RN contributes to improving patient satisfaction and clinical results through compassionate, evidence-based nursing practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alabama.
• Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Demonstrated clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing or a related acute care setting.
• Strong knowledge of nursing principles, patient care standards, and hospital protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Responsibilities:

• Perform thorough patient assessments and document findings accurately in medical records.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments while monitoring for adverse reactions.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and update patient care plans.
• Provide patient and family education regarding post-operative care, medication management, and health maintenance.
• Monitor vital signs and clinical indicators to detect changes in patient condition and respond promptly.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment adhering to hospital protocols and infection control standards.
• Assist with procedures and support patients with activities of daily living as needed.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to enhance nursing practice.

Skills:

The Med-Surg RN utilizes clinical assessment skills daily to evaluate patient conditions and identify changes requiring intervention. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams and educating patients and families. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities enable the nurse to prioritize tasks and respond to emergencies efficiently. Proficiency with electronic health records ensures accurate documentation and facilitates information sharing across care providers. Additionally, empathy and patient-centered care skills foster trust and support positive patient experiences throughout the recovery process.
