Job Summary
The Wellness Specialist oversees the implementation and management of organizational wellness initiatives aimed at enhancing employee health and well-being. This role promotes wellness, health, and fitness programs to improve overall employee quality of life while developing strategies to reduce healthcare costs.
Job Responsibilities
- Identifies and recommends new programs to enhance employee health and support wellness initiatives.
- Develops and distributes health and wellness promotional materials and educational content.
- Conducts one-on-one meetings with employees to discuss health goals, fitness plans, and health concerns related to exercise.
- Educates employees on various health and fitness topics, including nutrition, disease prevention through exercise, weight management, flexibility training, and integrating physical activity into daily life.
- Reviews employee health history questionnaires, assesses fitness levels, and recommends medical referrals, when necessary, before initiating an exercise program.
- Delivers individualized, goal-specific fitness training sessions, demonstrating proper techniques and ensuring safety.
- Incorporates physical therapy protocols into employee fitness plans, as appropriate.
- Performs basic injury assessments and provides guidance on seeking appropriate treatment.
- Monitors employee fitness programs through regular biometrics assessments and adjusts programs as needed.
- Conducts ergonomic assessments of employee workstations and recommends improvements to enhance productivity and prevent injury.
- Shares weekly motivational health tips, nutrition advice, and exercise-related information.
- Creates digital wellness content, including podcasts, videos, and flyers for display in Metro break rooms.
- Develops and presents seminars on various health and wellness topics.
- Tracks and maintains individual and group biometric data, including body fat, weight, and appointment history, generating monthly reports for management.
- Serves as a primary wellness resource, addressing employee questions and providing fitness-related support.
- Visits Metro locations in Missouri and Illinois to engage with employees and promote wellness initiatives.
- Oversees gym equipment maintenance, report issues, and recommend equipment purchases or upgrades.
- Participates in monthly Wellness Committee meetings, providing updates and suggesting strategies to enhance employee wellness.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including the ability to create spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.
- Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and nutrition principles.
- Strong understanding of common diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
- Skilled in effectively interacting and communicating with Agency and departmental personnel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to display empathy and provide compassionate support.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and evaluate large volumes of statistical data and associated costs.
- In-depth knowledge of health and wellness programs and industry best practices.
- Maintains relevant certifications required to deliver effective wellness services.
- Ability to physically demonstrate proper exercise techniques with accuracy and safety.
