What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional for Life Roles Transition Center (Walpole, MA) position at Bi-County Collaborative?
To assist a teacher in the instruction and care of students including observing student behavior, providing special health requirements, interacting with staff/parents, and keeping necessary records.
Essential Job Functions:
• Under teacher supervision prepare student materials, lessons and classroom activities
• Perform objective student observations in order to assist the teacher in assessing student
performance and data collection
• Guide student learning, enrichment work and remedial work
• Provide group instruction and individual instruction
• Assist the teacher in maintaining a controlled, safe classroom environment
• Implements behavior support plans under the direction of BCBA
• Prepare lunch/snacks according to individualized student needs
• Assist students with eating and drinking
• Assist students with gross motor skills including positioning students in supportive equipment and wheelchairs, working with students to sit up, stand, and walk, and assisting in physical education and leisure activities
• Assist students with educational skills involving communication, reading, writing, functional math, functional language, and community access skills
• Supervise students community activities
• Maintain awareness of physical and emotional changes in students and report concerns as appropriate.
• Set up the classroom for instruction, projects, and activities as requested by the teacher
• As needed drive students to community outings in BICO vehicles
• Assist teachers with daily and weekly lesson/work plans and follow-through
• Assist teachers in maintaining accurate records and reports
• Assumes all other responsibilities as determined by the Director of the Collaborative and/or Program Director/Designee
Knowledge of:
• Special needs of students who have behavioral, learning, or physical disabilities
• Skills desirable in some programs for nonverbal students
• Diaper changing and alternative toileting techniques for all age
• General clerical duties including email, record keeping, and data collection
Ability to:
• Develop and maintain professional rapport with teacher and other staff
• Demonstrate sensitivity to needs of students, staff, parents
• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students
• Supervise students
• Follow instructions and independently make decisions within the framework of established guidelines
• Operate standard office equipment (iPad, computer)
• Respond quickly in emergency situations
• Recognize changes in student behavior and appearance
• Communicate effectively in both oral and written form
• Regularly performs heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. maximum or carry any object weighing up to 25 lbs. on a continuous basis.
