What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant position at BHC Management?
Nurse Practitioner (Family / Primary Care) or Physician Assistant
Arkansas — Primary Care (Medicare)
Employer: BHC Management, LLC
Location: Earle, Arkansas
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Medical Director / Clinical Director
About the Role
We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (Family/Primary Care, FNP) to provide medical and primary care services to this patient population as part of an interdisciplinary team. The NP/PA delivers general medical care, manages the physical-health needs that intersect with behavioral health treatment, and coordinates with the psychiatric and behavioral health staff. Because this role serves Medicare beneficiaries, the clinician must be Medicare-enrolled (or eligible to enroll) and document services to Medicare medical-necessity standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide primary and medical care to patients (history and physical exams, diagnosis and management of acute and chronic medical conditions, ordering and interpreting labs and diagnostics).
- Manage the medical/physical-health needs of patients in behavioral health treatment, including metabolic monitoring and management related to psychiatric medications (in coordination with the prescribing psychiatric provider).
- Prescribe and manage medications within the FNP/PA scope of practice and prescriptive protocols.
- Provide medical clearance, screenings, and ongoing medical management as part of integrated care.
- Coordinate care with the psychiatric provider (PMHNP/physician), therapists, counselors, nursing, and case management; refer to specialty or psychiatric care as appropriate.
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the EHR consistent with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 (where applicable), and Medicare/Medicaid medical-necessity and billing requirements.
- Query the Arkansas Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) before prescribing controlled substances, as required.
- Maintain compliance with the collaborative practice agreement and prescriptive protocols with the collaborating physician.
Required Qualifications (Arkansas)
- Master's (MSN) or Doctoral (DNP) degree from an accredited Family/Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program.
- Active, unrestricted Arkansas APRN license with a Family/Individual Across the Lifespan (primary care) population focus, issued by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing; current unencumbered Arkansas RN license.
- National board certification as an FNP (e.g., FNP-BC through ANCC or FNP-C through AANP). National board certification as PA.
- Certificate of Prescriptive Authority from the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
- Collaborative Practice Agreement: Arkansas is a reduced-practice state. Unless the NP holds full independent practice authority (granted after 6,240 supervised hours via the Full Independent Practice Credentialing Committee), the NP/PA must maintain a collaborative practice agreement with a licensed physician whose training is within the APRN's scope/specialty. Organization to facilitate.
- DEA registration for controlled substances. Note: under Arkansas law, APRN controlled-substance authority covers Schedules III–V (Schedule II is restricted). Registration with the Arkansas PDMP is required.
- Medicare enrollment: Active Medicare enrollment with a valid National Provider Identifier (NPI), or eligibility and willingness to enroll prior to seeing Medicare patients. Where the practice bills, the clinician reassigns billing rights to the practice/RHC as applicable.
- Ability to pass a background check and any required health screenings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing primary care in an integrated behavioral health, community health, or RHC setting, but not necessary.
- Experience serving patients with co-occurring medical and behavioral health needs.
- Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid documentation, medical-necessity, and (where applicable) RHC billing standards.
- Experience serving older adults and dually eligible (Medicare/Medicaid) populations.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong primary-care clinical assessment and management skills across the lifespan.
