Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant I supports financial reporting, operational accounting, forecasting, and analytical activities for the distribution center. This role partners closely with operations leadership to analyze financial and operational performance, identify variances, support budgeting processes, maintain reporting accuracy, and assist with operational decision-making. The Staff Accountant I supports general ledger activities, reconciliations, KPI tracking, forecasting, month-end close activities, and reporting processes while helping drive process improvements and operational visibility through accurate and timely financial analysis.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and analyze weekly and monthly financial and operational reports for internal leadership and client reporting.
- Support forecasting and budgeting processes by partnering with operations leadership to understand labor, volume, productivity, overtime, and operational cost drivers.
- Analyze budget-to-actual variances and provide explanations regarding operational and financial performance.
- Review weekly expenses to ensure costs are properly recorded and work cross-functionally with Payroll, Accounts Payable, and leadership teams to resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with month-end close activities including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, general ledger support, and reporting validation.
- Maintain and distribute KPI reporting related to labor, productivity, operational performance, and financial metrics.
- Support reconciliation activities between internal reporting systems and client financial reporting.
- Prepare reports and analyses for internal and external customers.
- Assist with audits, account reconciliations, and compliance-related reporting activities.
- Develop and enhance financial reporting and reconciliation processes focused on improving reporting accuracy, operational visibility, and efficiency.
- Partner with operations leadership to identify cost savings opportunities, operational risks, and process improvements.
- Support implementation, testing, and validation of financial and operational systems updates as needed.
- Perform additional financial, operational, and analytical reporting as assigned.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and company objectives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret operational and financial data.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including formulas, pivot tables, and reporting analysis.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to communicate information at both detailed and high levels.
- Ability to communicate effectively with operations leadership, finance leadership, clients, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and respond constructively to feedback.
- Experience with Paycor, QuickBooks, Bill.com, Oracle, Dodeca, Kronos, or similar financial and workforce management systems preferred.
- Experience with operational systems such as WMS platforms, SmartView, or related reporting systems preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in accounting, finance, operational reporting, or financial analysis roles.
- Experience in warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, or distribution environments preferred.
- Experience with forecasting, reconciliations, variance analysis, KPI reporting, and operational financial support preferred.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles including journal entries, accruals, general ledger activities, reconciliations, and month-end close processes preferred.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
