SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The Behavior Technician is a professional support position.
The Behavior Technician provides behavioral services to individuals with severe developmental and cognitive disabilities, their families, and the staff who serve them. The Behavior Technician collaborates with the Behavior Department, classroom staff and therapists to implement behavior intervention plans based on functional behavior assessments; assists in training staff on how to implement the behavior plan, and is responsible for data collection and data entry procedures.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to assigned Behavior Consultant
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide care and services to promote a safe environment for students and staff.
- Provide crisis intervention for students, as needed.
- Assist classroom staff and therapists with students’ behavioral needs
- Participate as a team member in the implementation and monitoring of comprehensive behavioral objectives, goals and plans, including a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
- Evaluate students’ needs and provide interventions to redirect behavior.
- Work one-on-one with students to affect behavior changes
- Implement behavioral programs designed to make positive and appropriate changes.
- Maintain documentation and collects data regarding contacts with students. Monitor students’ progress, response to plan details, etc. for the purpose of ongoing behavior support.
- Assist in training staff on implementation of students’ behavior intervention plans, data collection, and other support strategies.
- Utilize Ukeru procedures in the School Programs.
- Utilize behavior management strategies outlined in Positive Supports and Interactions training.
- Provide guidance to direct service staff for the implementation of Ukeru procedures as they apply to the program, to individual students, and to the implementation of individual behavior intervention plans.
- Utilize a trauma-informed approach to working with all students.
- Consistently comply with all agency policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Behavior Consultant
- Must maintain certification in Ukeru
- Must maintain certification in CPR and First Aid

- Ability to remain calm during a crisis situation as evidenced by the ability to make quick rational decisions and prioritize immediate student needs to maintain an educational environment and ensure safety
- Possesses good time management skills.

- Ability to participate in the physical management of students which can include, but is not limited to, awareness and demonstration of safe body positioning at all times, awareness and coordination to block and deflect possible aggression
- Ability to be organized and to demonstrate knowledge of behavioral assessment.
- Proficient computer skills including Excel, WORD, and Outlook.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Preferred: Associate’s Degree and 1 year of experience or a combination or education and experience.
Minimum: High School Diploma and 3 years of experience in Human Services.
Must maintain certification in Ukeru
Must maintain certification in CPR and First Aid
