Transportation Construction Inspector II
Role Overview
Transportation Construction Inspector II shall have a minimum 5 years of experience in construction engineering & inspection (CEI) on highway and bridge projects. This position requires a candidate with effective time-management, written communication, planning, organization and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate has the ability to take initiative, work independently and coordinate efforts with multi-discipline teams. The candidate must possess excellent attention to detail and have the ability to produce high quality work under short time constraints.

Key Technical Responsiblities
- Under general supervision and directions, perform specific construction inspection tasks in accordance with established quality procedures and evaluate compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings and other project related documents.
- Monitor contractor’s operations to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications.
- Coordinate, schedule and perform construction materials sampling and testing to ensure the compliance with TxDOT sampling and testing guide schedule minimum frequency requirements.
- Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete inspection and testing reports on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures.
- Interact with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites.
- Perform, supervise, report on frequency compliance and coordinate field tests on materials and completed work using standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM or other agency with appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment.
- Perform mathematical calculations using basic algebra (fundamental laws, algebraic expressions), geometry, and the trigonometric functions of right triangles.
- Mentor and train less experience workers on work methods.
Role Requirements
Graduation from high school or GED certification.
A person in this position generally, but not necessarily, has a minimum of 5 years of experience in:
- Roadway, and related facilities, construction inspection
- Sampling and testing of soil, base, concrete and paving materials
- Reporting daily inspections within TxDOT SiteManager
- Shall possess valid Class C Texas driver’s license and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements.
Extensive knowledge of
- Highway construction plans, construction inspection procedures, and specifications.
- Materials used in highway construction.
- Material testing procedures.
Considerable knowledge of
- Algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- The Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices or Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Certification in one or more of the following areas is not required but preferred:
- ACI Concrete Field Grade 1
- TxAPA SB102 in soils and base
- TxAPA Level 1B in hot mix asphalt
TxDOT experience is an advantage
Must pass drug test, fit-for-duty physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.
Physical Demands
- Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and move 100 lbs
- Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles.
- Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
- Flexibility to travel to construction sites for extended periods and work outside of normal business hours.
Individuals must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Candidates will go through background, driver’s license, and drug tests.
