Overview
We are seeking reliable, compassionate, and skilled Substitute Behavior Technicians to join our Beyond Behavior team. This is an hourly, school-year position (approximately 180 workdays per year) with daily assignment notifications. Substitute BTs provide support when a primary team member is absent, ensuring continuity of care and maintaining a positive, structured school day for the student.
All assignments take place within the Carlsbad area, and the role focuses on supporting students with developmental disabilities—including autism—to access their education in a safe, consistent, and meaningful way. As a Substitute BT, you’ll play a key role in maintaining stability for students while contributing to a growing organization committed to both student success and teammate well-being.
Responsibilities
- Receive daily assignment notifications and provide short-term coverage for school sessions when primary staff are unavailable.
- Implement individualized behavior intervention plans under the supervision of a BCBA or licensed professional.
- Support students in maintaining regulation, engagement, and safety throughout the school day.
- Assist with classroom routines, transitions, peer interactions, and academic tasks.
- Document behavioral observations and communicate key updates to supervisors.
- Work collaboratively and professionally with teachers, school staff, and Beyond Behavior teammates.
- Follow established strategies to ensure consistency and continuity of care.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly autism.
- Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and school-based supports.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new classrooms and follow established plans with limited onboarding time.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, school staff, and teammates.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards.
- Compassionate, calm, and student-centered approach.
- Previous ABA or special education experience preferred; training provided for the right candidate.
- Dependable and comfortable with daily scheduling and a variable assignment pattern.
