Job Description: The high school assistant principal will support the principal in fulfilling the chief responsibility of promoting the educational development and well-being of each student. The high school assistant principal will assist in carrying out the mission, vision, and core values of the district and school.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree;
- Valid Ohio license as an administrator;
- A minimum of three years experience in the field of public education, including experience as a classroom teacher;
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication using up-to-date technology;
- Satisfactory criminal background check in accordance with Ohio law;
- Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
Preferred:
- Valid Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) and Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES) Credentialing
- Certified in crisis prevention, trauma-informed behavior management
Essential Functions:
- Promoting the psychological and physical safety of students:
- Ensure the safety of students.
- Promote a positive school climate and culture.
- Serve as a role model for students.
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information (e.g., test scores, student/personnel information).
- Provide supervision at school-sponsored events.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Collaborate with the principal to develop and implement a shared vision for the high school that aligns with Bexley City Schools' mission and values.
- Lead in collaboration with the principal in the continuous improvement of instructional programming for continued student growth and success.
- Use data to identify areas for improvement and implement evidence-based strategies.
- Promotes healthy work-life balance for staff and self.
- Core Instruction:
- Assist in the supervision and evaluation of staff in accordance with the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) and Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES) and other district priorities in order to promote equitable and rigorous outcomes for students.
- Assist in professional development opportunities.
- Coordinate student activities aligned to students' educational, wellness, and sense of belonging (e.g., field trips, field day) and serve as an Instructional Leader to staff.
- Share in the coordination of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) process and serves as a district representative in meetings such as 504s.
- Assist in the implementation of special education programming, including serving as the district representative at Individualized Education Programs (IEP), Evaluation Team Reports (ETR), and other special education student meetings.
- Oversee and implement state and district assessments, including but not limited to the Ohio State End of Course exam, ACT, Advanced Placement (AP), PSAT, etc.
- Develop procedures to ensure the state and district requirements for graduation are communicated and supervised for each student and family.
- Develop and organize the student handbook and curricular course of study.
- Operations:
- Serve as the school's decision-maker and authority in the absence of the principal.
- Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school.
- Develop and implement structures to maximize learning.
- Develop and implement attendance policies consistent with the Board of Education policies and state laws.
- Refine and implement appropriate disciplinary procedures and restorative practices.
- Coordinate the opening and closing of each school year.
- Assist in the development of the master schedule and organization of scheduling.
- Coordinate the distribution, record-keeping, and security of school keys.

- Athletics, Co-Curriculars, and Extracurriculars:
- Share in the supervision of high school athletic, extracurricular, and other special events.
- Communicate and set forth expectations outlined in the Family/Student Athletic Handbook, OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association), and Board of Education policies and forms with staff, high schoolers, and families.
- Communicate with high school families regarding high school athletic questions and concerns.
- Monitor and communicate regarding the academic eligibility of high school athletes and their families.
- Monitor and address OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) and Board of Education policies, including, but not limited to, drug, alcohol, and academic integrity violations for high school students.
- Ensure the high school rosters are entered into the district's online systems.
- Make sure all student and parent/guardian forms are signed in the district's online system.
- Conduct seasonal athletic coaches' meetings in collaboration with the athletic director and ensure high school coaches articulate the district athletic philosophy.
- Assist and support athletic coaches in scheduling facilities through district facilities software, setting up transportation for athletic events, and other operational and logistical tasks.
- Assist the athletic director by offering input to the supervision and evaluation of high school coaches.
- Coordinate team photos for high school athletes, including dates for athletes to be photographed during each season.
- Successfully completes all-district training requirements in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

Required Knowledge and Use of Equipment and Software:
- Copier, printer, scanner, laminator, and fax.
- Keys and locking mechanisms on doors, cabinets, windows, etc.
- District-employed software. By way of example, this includes any specific technology the District uses, including Google Education software: Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Forms, Sheets, and Google Ed products.
- Applications (apps) or devices used to calculate numbers or used for purposes of a dictionary, thesaurus, grammar correction, or other applications accessed for this position.
- Phone equipment and all phone functions include transferring, holding, and sending callers to voicemail.
Working Conditions:
- May occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Frequent interruption of tasks to support students, staff, parents/guardians, community members, and visitors.
- Must occasionally work nights/extended days due to school functions.
- Must be able to assist others by moving around the school and grounds.
- Must be able to lift and move 40 lbs.
- Repetitive hand motion (e.g., keyboard, typing) or voice-to-text.
- Employees shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout their employment with the District.
