Veterans Treatment Court Intake Specialist

Summary

Duties and Responsibilities

• Completes Court eligibility referral forms received from the jail staff, courts, attorneys, Pretrial Services and the community
• Researches current charge and criminal history in coordination with Pretrial Services (TCIC/NCIC) so that eligibility for the Court can be determined by the Court Manager
• Contacts attorneys and obtains the necessary releases and authorization to proceed with Court screening, attorney permission and follow-ups as needed
• Coordinates with attorneys and agencies to schedule screening appointments and/or obtains confirmation of treatment diagnosis to proceed with screening for Court Program
• Requests medical documentation from service providers, hospitals, schools; updates medical records and information throughout the defendant's participation in the program
• Initiates court transfers for eligible defendants of the Court Program and monitors the status of transfer to the Court docket
• Participates at the court docket and ensures sensitive collateral information is complete and filed appropriate in the court file
• Responsible for updating and maintaining referral log
• Performs related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Behavioral Science or Criminal Justice plus three (3) years of experience working in the legal field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must have good knowledge of English spelling, grammar, and punctuation
• Must have good knowledge of office procedures
• Must have skill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment and skill in dealing with emotional individuals in an interview setting
• Must have interpersonal skills to interact effectively with troubled, mentally ill or hostile individuals
• Must have skill in dealing with persons in crisis
• Must have the ability to work independently; ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to compile statistical data; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and writing; ability to obtain and organize information; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment to include the use of word processing and spreadsheet software; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, Courts ,outside agencies, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and the general public
• Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
• Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
• May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek

• Working conditions are primarily indoors
• Required to work in difficult and stressful situations
• Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
• Occasionally moves about the office
• Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
• Positions self to perform essential functions
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position
